I have a 2016 tacoma with 11000 mi on it. the trans has not felt right since week 2. I brought the truck to the dealer at 5000, 7500, 10000 miles. each time asking for fluid to be checked. each time I was told trans is full and ok this is the way the truck runs. after the 10000 mi service I decided to take the truck to an independent shop to have my fluids checked. trans down 1.2 qts. , driveshafts never greased. the truck also has nav reboot issues and vibration when slowing from 20 mph to stop. opened case with corporate. they are offering extended warranty. I don't want a new truck with a damaged trans. does anyone know where to go from here? dealer obviously lied both to my face and on paper.

Take the service order back to the dealers and raise some hell. I'd say you'd probably be ok but that's a lot of miles and that was pretty low on fluid. If you plan to keep the truck I'd take a warranty extension from Toyota or fight to get one.

Simple tell them you want the check done, according to Toyotas procedure not using the TIS computer, before purchasing. If they want to make a sale, believe me they will check it

Like the first post says, the dealer Might lie in person and paper that the tranny fluid was checked. I been to so many dealers that are not honest and this is from many manufactures from Honda to BMW.. So unless I see it with my own eye balls I don't believe it.

Sure the dealer may lie when you ask them to check the fluid levels. Odds are probably about the same that your current vehicle will explode in a ball of fire on the way to the dealer so will that stop you from driving it there? Letting yourself get controlled by a worst case scenario that is fairly improbable in the first place seems like a shitty way to exist IMO.

I understand your concern. I work at a deal so I would just be right there as they did it. You can request to see them do this or "look" at it while it's up in the air, then just ask a few questions while its up there and bullshit with the tech in hopes they don't mind your there while he's doing it. Or some dealerships have viewing Windows so you might be able to see your truck being worked on from those of they have them.

OP, since you asked I would take your paperwork from independent shop & a dated detailed list of the facts including a blurb on your Toyota Corp phone call. I always can stay more focused & on point with a script that way I have a chance not to forget anything Date & details journal really helps. I'd take that extended warranty & enjoy your truck.

What kind of resolution are you wanting? I think them paying for the independent shop and an extended warranty is pretty fair.

Might help people to recommend a course of action if they know where you want to end up.

Keep in mind Toyota is going to tell you the low fluid would not have caused any problems and that the trans issues you and I and the others complain about are "working as intended" Its going to take some type of reflash to cure "some of the issues"

Easy to check if the fluid levels were checked - all the fill hole bolts have paint on them from the factory. I checked yesterday with good lighting under my truck .. The dealer checked all of my fluid levels cept "maybe" the transfer case. I took pics so next time I go to the dealer to get my oil changed at 10K I'll ask them to check it again.

I checked all the fluids on my 2nd gen when I took delivery inlcluding the transmission. For me thats just common practice...I dont have much faith in dealerships.

I gave you my opinion in your other post. Can you drive a manual? If yes, get the manual and stay away from the auto. Between Toyota sticking their heads up their asses about the problem and not doing anything to fix it you would be a fool to gamble with $40 of your money. Yes you may get one that has no issues at all, or you may get one with a shitty transmission. Your money, your call.

I'm the guy that always has to have the latest model (four new cars in five years) so when I told my wife I was buying a 2015 with the 2016 just around the corner she thought to have me committed.

I'm seeing now that getting the 2015 was the best thing I did and if I hadn't and was looking at a new vehicle now, a 3rd Gen Tacoma would be the last on my list.

Who knows what long term damage that low fluid in the transmission caused. I'd be fighting for a brand new truck.

I know everyone will say that it's a new truck, shouldn't have to check it yourself.

But, you should always check for yourself. Trust no dealership when it comes to things that aren't in your direct field of vision.

Honestly, 1.2 quarts low isn't likely to cause any damage to the transmission. I know I've seen 4L60Es, 700R4s, TH350s way low on transmission fluid (3-4 quarts) and they lived long and happy lives.

Someone needs to make a thread with links to all automatic transmission issues threads lol. I am sure they are in the dozens now.
