I purposely drove around in the 15-25mph range today. My truck actually vibrates consistently just driving in the range, and I think it's worsens during braking, which gives off that rumble strip feeling. Once you get past 30mph....smooth sailing.

I will definitely let the dealer know, get a case number, and contact Toyota.

I'm also not imagining this problem. It's actually real. I let other people drive the truck today, and they noticed it too without me telling them.

I have only found one person on this forum who has fixed this. 280Rem

    His symptoms
"I can feel it in my hands, but, and brake pedal. It's there in the 15-30mph range very noticeable. Most at 20-25, and far worse when braking or coasting to a stop."

    His solution
"I am not at liberty to say exactly how I managed to get Toyota to fix my vibration, but they did. NOT the dealership, but Toyota. How they fixed it was installed new leafs and caster wedges in the rear. Solved about 90% of the slow speed vibration and 100% of the highway speed vibration."

Hope you're onto something with the shims honey....errr...Jeff

Lol! Honey was the name my step daughter started calling me at just over a year-and-a-half old. Was funny cuz I would come in and say honey I'm home and one day her and her mother walked in and she said honey were home! Must have been copying me. Ever since that day she called me honey. All through school even her friends called me honey and so did her father LOL. That was 18 years ago. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Will give an update on my shims later.

Are you saying 280rem also fixed the vibration/buzz at speed that's linked to RPMs?

Nah, I think these are separate issues. I haven't seen anyone fix the 2000-2300rpm buzzing steering wheel yet in that 60+ page thread.

How did you get Toyota to fix this? I took mine to the dealer yesterday, and I got the usual "we can't replicate the problem". I knew that shit was coming.

    I didn't get it fixed.
The posters who's name is .280rem got toyota to fix his. Reading through his post, it seems like initially got the same "it's normal for this truck to do that" spiel.

Most of the replies to this thread are regarding 4wd Tacomas, but it sounds a lot like the issue that recently popped up in my truck, which is 2wd. I didn't really start noticing it until after the 5000 mile service. It's basically a shudder type feeling when braking, but I've noticed that it's much more pronounced when slowing from 55-60. The shudder is most noticeable as the truck slows through the 20-35mph range. If I'm very very easy on the brakes and slow down way in advance, it doesn't really do it. It seems to be worse when there's more force applied to the brakes and the weight of the vehicle shifts forward. Coasting to a stop, there is no shudder. The dealer said it was the tires out of balance, but it's still there and seems to be getting worse. Unlike some of the others on here, I don't really feel this in the brake pedal or steering wheel. I feel in the seat and I can actually see the bed of the truck shake in my side mirror.

As soon as I have an opportunity, I'm going to go back to the dealer. I may have a completely different problem from everyone else, but I thought I would post here first, rather than create a whole new thread. Any thoughts?

Tail shaft? you mean front drive shaft or rear drive shaft, as noted before i dont think its the rear drive shaft on the 4wd models, I think its in the front, like i said earlier in this post my issue completely went away when i zip tied the front drive shaft.

service manager at my dealership drove my truck and noticed the shudder, then we took out a new limited and the shudder was less noticeable, but still there...he ordered new rear brake drums for my truck, and put the new drums on a week later. No change to the shudder after the new drums.
I am bringing the truck back in next week as his "service field tech" wants to "try something"...
I am not sure what this "something" will be...but I will report back.

Hi tombiosis, did you notice if your truck will shudder even if you didn't hit the brakes and let your truck naturally decelerate?

Trying to see if this is driveline related (which I think it is) or brake related.

It is most definitely not drum brake related, I am amazed the tech even thought that. It is very obvious it is a driveline issue. Low speed, low frequency vibration. Constant in 2nd gear at 16mph as well? Yeah. Driveline.

Has anyone else tried this with success other than @Bossman14 ?

Not trying to refute it, just want to see if any others have had any luck. I am going to try this today and will report back soon afterwards.

I am never amazed at what those Techs will say. My previous car was a 2012 Mustang GT and they had some lower control arm bushing squeak going slow over a bump like a rusty bed squeak. So when I went for a ride with him he is like ohh thats the shock boots. o_O WHAT..There was even a TSB for it. then he told me I had issues cause I bottomed out the car because there was a flat spot on the exhaust. Thats frigging factory like that. I dont ever trust them other then to document it into the system so if an issue down the road comes up

I just experimented with the zip tie solution and got mixed results. I daisy-chained about 5 small zip ties just like @Bossman14 and drove around town/highway. I noticed it didn't shudder as much (about 70% of the time) but still got slight shuddering on other stops (the other estimated 30%). I was focusing specifically on when the shudder starts at 25mph on down to a complete stop.

Would be a big help if some others can try this out and report back w/their results. Again, there should be no harm unless you plan on putting into 4WD (which I won't be anytime soon).

@Bossman14 were you able to eliminate the shudder 100% or do you still feel some slight shuddering/vibration? I'm going to keep the zipties down there for a few more drives to see how the truck responds long-term.

... ^^^ ... Mine seems like a driveline "slack" issue (spacer missing or shaft too short ) ... small chunk & thud at times ...

Maybe even a (back end section) transmission problem ...

I don't think it is transmission related, i have a manual transmission and it happens in neutral as well.
