That's just some nice patina. People pay extra for that type of stuff with designer jeans ... just consider it a fashion statement ;)

Do you need to know, or care?
Assholes are gonna be assholes, absolutely no respect to another's vehicle and investment! Sometimes I wonder why I'm so careful opening my doors and slithering out of my truck, even holding my hand in a position that makes sure the vehicle next to me gets no scrapes, but then comes along the jerk who doesn't give a crap, and then I think about the 10% or so of people who are just jerks, and think about that movie The Purge, and then think "maybe not a bad idea after all". Everytime I see a new scrape, I wish I could catch the mofo doing it, but of course never happens.
Sorry OP, I feel you're hurt.

It's usually some Fat P.O.S. that can barely walk and get in and out of their vehicle, and they are driving a piece of shit.

That's why I always Park further away and try to get a corner stall, 50% less chance of door dings and the fat people tend to park as close as possible :D

I always park all the way in the back of the parking lot. Walking never hurts anyone and I'm sure I cut down on scratches and dings by a shit ton. I love watching people throw doors open into other vehicles or pull out and turn to soon and scratch the shit out of someone's ride like yours. Did you park close ton the front of a parking lot?
