My concern would be the gas tank puncturer. I'm sure you've heard about people punching holes in the gas tank.

yes, a few people have them and a few of them cause a check engine light. I'd have to search here to find one.

Stant usually makes a pretty good one. The part number for 2005+ Tacomas is 10509. Take heed, though, I found a review about it recently posted on Amazon on June 2, 2008:

"After reading the reviews on Amazon and multiple Toyota forums concerning this "locking" gas cap I called the manufacturer (STANT) and talked to a fella named Chris. He assured me that maybe 1 in 200 caps had a problem. He then added that the 10509 cap was being re-designed and the new version would be available in maybe 6 months. Based on the current problems with gas prices, theft (siphoning), and his statement that "1 in 200" had a problem, I bought one. TRUST ME .. It doesn't work at all!!! Called him again today and explained the problem. His response was "I told you we were re-designing it and you went out and bought one anyway?!" Now, if they knew the thing didn't work, why are they still selling it??? I'm out $22.00. I'll be contacting the Federal Trade Commission tomorrow. In the meantime, I'd advise NOT buying this product."

Of course, this is one person's opinion, but I'm with Isocoee, you might have other problems with folks puncturing your fuel tank.

BudBuilt makes a really nice one. :)

I have a Stant locking cap for my 70 gallon tank and it's more for show than anything. To open it without the key, simply push down and turn. I figure it's at least a deterrent if not a real solution. Goes back to that whole "locks are for honest people" thing.

yeah, my cousin own a fabrication shop and i had him fabricate sort of an enclosure, that will stop anyone from puntureing it but not from siphoning it. I lives really close to the mexico border in san diego and its more common than anywhere else.

It is impossible to siphon gas out of the 05+ Tacomas.(Not sure about the older ones.) The filler is designed to prevent a hose from going far enough to make it into the tank. Go ahead and try. I double dog dare you! :p

If you want the locking cap to keep vandals from pouring something INTO your tank that's a different matter and the locking cap would work.... But if someone's that determined to spoil your day they'd likely damage the truck some other way.

A Locking Gas cap will only stop somebody who wants to dump sugar down your tank. If somebody wants to steal your gas, they will by simply drilling/punching a hole through your tank. It's quick and easy; especially with the ground clearance of our trucks. I'd rather have somebody siphon the fuel out for $80 than have to replace the gas tank at $300.

I purchases a slant gas cap and have no problems. I also bought an other one when I ordered my current one so I have an extra. I'll be willing to sell it.

So you leave your windows down all the time too then, right? How about your keys? Do you leave them in your truck? Because, using your logic, the alternatives would be a lot more expensive than just handing your property over to thieves.

Whenever someone uses this argument I always think of Full Metal Jacket:

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Private Pyle, if there is one thing in this world that I hate, it is an unlocked footlocker! You know that don't you?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, yes, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: If it wasn't for dickheads like you, there wouldn't be any thievery in this world, would there?

No, I'm not calling you a dickhead, Stevie. Just illustrating a point. Plus, I never let the opportunity pass to quote Sgt Hartman.
