This is definitely not normal. My car is only 5 months old. I fluid filmed the shit out of it two days after I bought it. Took it to the car wash and sprayed the under carriage after every snow storm. Its garaged. Another member reported this kind of rust build up too but I can't find the thread. I assume this is covered under warranty.

That is normal. Fluid film and ANY other rust preventer will burn away in a day.

You could talk to the dealer. I just read the Tacoma warrant for rust. It seems to address only body panels

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Just about all factory exhaust will do this unless they are 304. If you don't want rust you can upgrade to a 304 stainless system.

I wouldn't expect it to stay. This can't be normal on a 5 month old car.

I've never seen a car do this at 4 months. I live in salt land.

I began noticing it after a few years on all of my cars. The subaru being shot at about 2 years. Never at 4,000 miles.

[IMG]this doesnt look normal, after just 5000 miles. Or is this the product of road salt and a bad winter?

Has a relic'd look. This is considered desirable in things like clothes, some furniture, guitars, etc.

That's perfectly normal. It's just surface rust, nothing to be concerned about.

That's most definitely due to road conditions I was just under a 2016 three days ago with just about 15000 miles and it all looks new still just discolored from heat. Salt water and heat don't go over very well with bare metal.

That's not much rust at all. Just a little surface rust. Like others mentioned above, unless it's 304 it'll rust, it's inevitable. It's not anything to be concerned about, nor is there anything you can do about it anyways. Spray the studs down with PB blaster a few times a year if you are concerned about it just to keep the nuts from seizing to them.
