This locking device is specifically designed to address this very issue and prevent the device from being bypasses, or tricked. (take a look at the pictures and see the installation instructions) sabellco.com

The product is made of 6061 T6 Aluminum and is very rigid. If enough people are interested, a stainless option can be made available. They would need to be pre-ordered.

The cool factor is really good with this device.

But function should override form. What testing has been done with this device?

For example, what would happen if a flat-blade screwdriver or chisel was used to pry it open? Would the screw give up and separate the rings, or would the aluminum rings bend or crack?

That slot between the rings looks awfully tempting for trying a defeat.

EDIT: Maybe the Gatekeeper would aid protection.

I'd be really surprised if anything that was able to fit in that slot would be able to break this part. Maybe an air chisel would do it but I really doubt any kind of hand tool could break either the aluminum or the screw.

Remember, all anti-theft devices are deterrents. Anything that makes it harder, takes longer, requires more tools to circumvent the device is a good thing. The band clamp uses readily available tools to defeat.

That's a good point. I bet you can easily defeat a worm type band clamp with a big flat screw driver.

I am sure you could do that. But it takes time. Time is a thief's worst enemy. Anything you put on there is a deterrent, but anything can be broken into with enough time. Taking off the tailgate with nothing on it to protect it takes 5-10 seconds. If a person needs to pull out a screwdriver and spend a minute taking it off then they will move on to another truck with the fear of being spotted.

Also keep in mind that tailgates are designed easy to remove for a reason........ using the truck as a truck, hauling stuff.

If you do this, all things 'security' oriented make it harder for the owner to remove the gate as well.

Not saying security shouldn't be added. We live in a world filled with dishonest people. Many of whom scream the loudest when they are impacted by another of their ilk.

It's just a point of consideration. If you rarely remove the gate or live in a high risk area, more is probably better.

I had my gate stolen in Montreal at the Dorval Travelodge Park/Sleep/Fly (and rob). 24 hour security, my ass!

Now I have a clamp and a keyless Pop & Lock.

I just bought a keyless solenoid for my recently acquired Leer cap as well.

Sorry to hear that your tailgate was stolen, when I bought my truck 2013, there were many post talking about several solutions. This product was specifically designed to address the issue. We are in the process of developing this product for other vehicles as well.

How wide is the clamp you are using? if it is too narrow and the clamp becomes loose, it is possible to remove the tailgate without completely removing the clamp.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Looks pretty slick, but with my pipe clamp mod you gotta be a gymnast to get at the screw head. I also am not sure I trust a website with broken English like this with a credit card, even though you're listed as being in Torrance. Good luck with it but, as in "Shark Tank," I'm out.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
    Kudos for an innovative solution.
I tried a hose clamp on my 16' and when tightened, the clamp slipped to one side since the metal hinge cup is tapered slightly.
I ended up putting outer washers on the support cable bolts so they can't quickly be removed. I also lock the tailgate.
