    Yes ,the 285's have sucked the power unless you drive around in 4th ,dont really care about MPG loss just the power loss,my 07 taco didnt even come close to the loss it had the same setup.

    Does changing the gears change mpg as well?

    Yes it should, it should bring it back to normal with the right gears.

    School me on this... why the loss of power going to a 285 sized tire. Unsprung weight ?? C rated or E rated 285s??

    Adding Rotational mass and the larger diameter of the tire, as well as increased friction. Also the new gearing on the auto would hate to be in the 2 overdrive gears with how much lower they are compared to the 2nd gen.

    Its the size of the tire "diameter" weight does play a part i am running terra grappler g2 Lt. They are lighter then the C rated tire and with 2016 low RPM range it will loose its power.

    If you're running the 44 pound 285 nitto g2's then yeah the power loss is just from slightly lower rpms in each gear combined with increased power demands to move a taller/wider tire, more adversely affected when starting or at low speeds.

    Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    Not always true. Because what used to be 65mph at 2krpm will go up on the tac if you get shorter gears.

    I have had gear change on a chevy sub and chevy silverado and i got my mileage back on both of them.

    I had 4.56 gears put in my 4runner after up-sizing to 285 tires. My mileage still suffered as I was running at a higher RPM but they made driving much more enjoyable.

    Exactly. The power band is shifting to the low end but at the trade off of top-end

    i have 2WD and find the traction control option totally useless. i would like to install age old Posi Traction so i have actual 2 WD drive. is this doable?

    If your going to change gears because of the added weight and mass of the bigger tires, perhaps you should also upgrade your brakes...

    The brakes are still great even with all the added weight. I'm interested in regearing as well. No one offers anything lower than a 4.30 ring and pinion for the '16 Tacos yet. I'm waiting for 4.56's to become available.
