20160414_152304.jpg If you live in a hilly area you might want to keep the 15 because the low end torque on the 2nd gen is awesome and if driving in hills the 16 won't be in Atkinson cycle much so you won't save much gas. But if you drive alot on flat freeways the 3rd gen will save you alot of gas as long as your speed is consistant. If you love to launch from a standing start with the wheels blazing keep the 2nd gen. I did love to launch in my 2nd gen but was worth it to give this up for great gas mileage as most of my driving is on flat freeways. I love my third gen and have no regrets

You're an idiot or just ignorant and biased based on your response and comments. It's the same bed, was raised an inch to account for new side panels and tailgate, how does 6'x4'1'' account for so much more cubic feet or actual usable cargo placement over a 2nd gen? Yes the 3rd gen engine has more horsepower, off the line 2nd gen beats it as demonstrated by TTFL, has more torque as well, not by much but there, slap a supercharger on there and your 3.5L blows in comparsion, lets not negate the fact its proven to go 200,000+ miles without a hickup, something your new engine has yet to demonstrate (not that it wont, but verdict is still out). Fuelly shows the 3.5 only getting 18-19mpg on average, thats only 1-2 over 2nd gen and just because you get 23 dosent mean that everyone will or thats the norm, as evidenced by many on here with 3rd gens and fuelly numbers, so your 20+ mpg is the minority as of now. Not to mention I dont have an erratic transmission with documented issues, crank shaft position sensor failures, rear diff leaks, humming/rpm vibration issues, continued axle wrap (carry over from 2nd gen in some cases and other issues). Sure I dont have a fancy little display that tells me things in my instrument cluster or wireless charging and a sunroof, but a $2k in price and having to deal with early adoption 1st year issues I dont have to deal with. Again, please present facts before you spout opinion based nonsense, you'll get more respect here. And as @Jeff Lange has pointed out numerous times, much of the truck is carried over (suspension components, cab, etc.). Now if OP was looking at buying a 2015 or 2016, sure get the newest, but trading a proven truck in for what is almost the same damn truck minus a few things isnt the best advice. I'm not saying 2nd gens are better to 3rd, but facts are facts and again, you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar especially getting on a high horse about why your truck is SO much better with little to back it. Far from in denial, have test drove 4 3rd gens and wanted to buy one at some point, I want to remain a taco owner, I've had 4 dude but after 10 years this truck isnt leaps and bounds better by any means, refined, improved in areas sure.

Glad to see that 2nd Gen owners love their 2nd Gen in a 3rd Gen thread..... COOL STORY.

We already have people trying to compare apples to oranges by saying put a supercharger on a 2nd Gen and it will smoke a 3rd Gen DUH !!! Ya think ???? Put a supercharger on a 3rd gen when someone makes one and it wont only spit on a 2nd Gen it will laugh like he11 at it.

But for those that say a STOCK 2nd Gen will smoke a STOCK 3rd Gen in the 1/4, they are quite delusional.

OP asked an opinion on should he trade in a 2nd gen for a 3rd gen on a tacoma forum, not sure why only 3rd gen owners opinions some how matter or how thats relevant, OPINIONS. Yes when a supercharger option comes out, win for the 3rd gen, but as of now no aftermarket or oem support so not an option, OP keeping his 2nd gen and modifying it with a factory supercharger is, but thats outside all of this. I agree about your last statement, not smoke, but from a dead start the 2nd gen wins off the line, DYNO shows this too, watch TTFL video, but in the end the 3rd gen would catch up and win. OP was asking for input on why he should or shouldnt trade in, bottom line, facts and some not so facts were presented, whether someone has owned both, one or none is irrelevant.

I said 1/4 mile I never mentioned off the line, I know the numbers.

By the way the TTFL video is total BS.

    No stock Tacoma runs a 10 sec 1/4 mile, the video shows on the 1st race at 3:58 to 4:08 that`s 10 secs, the 2nd race shows from 4:21 to 4:31 that`s 10 seconds, that`s 1/8 mile.

Don`t believe everything you see on the internet, that video was made to serve an agenda. They stopped it at 1/8 mile because they know what would have been the result at 1/4 mile.

After you go back and watch the video you don`t have to come back and say that I`m right, I already know I am.

Keep the '15 for now. Toyota always adds more content/value each year and issues TSBs for all the annoyances.

Your basing this on assumptions and opinion. Again chill with the defense of your precious turd gen. Each truck has its points. No one said stock wise the 3rd gen dosent win out, it has more horsepower, dyno shows this, from a dead start 2nd gen wins, it has a tad more torque and weighs less. Chill FFS.

DUDE, are you serious ? OPINION ? GO Back and watch the BS video, the numbers don`t lie. There are no assumptions and opinions, it`s basic math.

Pull your fugly 2nd gen up next to a 3rd Gen and you`ll get your feelings hurt, I promise you.

    LMAO

Do you not read, I said 3rd gen wins in power dpt, I've seen the numbers/dyno, etc., but off the line it does not, I never said anything besides that. Chill.

You don`t have to admit the TTFL video is deceptive, it`s ok.

Perception ??? ROFL, dude stop it, you're killing me.

The TTFL video is a BS deceptive LIE, there is no stock Tacoma that runs a 10 sec 1/4

Exactly some folks :facepalm:A deceptive LIE is a bit over doing it, they compare all three trucks, guess what the 3rd gen got great reviews and compliments, your upset because it shows the 2nd gen beating it off the line? Who the f cares, no one does simply stating it did. I dont see your hatred so much for the video, besides your obsession with why the 3rd gen is better?.

    LOL

You saw the deception that they wanted you to see and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. I bet the dealerships love you.

I gave you the facts, which was the exact times in the video that YOU told me to go look at, you went back and saw it and you still say that it`s perception and opinion.

I proved to you and everyone else that went back and watched it that the video is BS.

    Case Closed.

I would like to hook bumpers with a turd gen, pretty sure it wouldn't be able to hang.

    nothing cool
I have a 2011 and my dad has a 2012. I really like the interiors of the 2012-2015 better than mine. I even like them better than the 2016. (Except the Limited version is nice). I say keep your 2015 awhile. The 2016 and newer will be around for awhile. Unless you need the latest and newest stuff then go ahead and spend your money.
