I own a '16 and told him to keep the '15.

Basically the '16 is pearls on a pig. Truck cosmetically looks awesome, but deep down it's still a pig. it's slower, shifts rough and erratic, and really doesn't get better mpg.

I came from an 08 Chevy Malibu I bought new, to my 16 Taco. Big step up for me to say the least. My dad bought his 14 tacoma new. With that being said, I've had some issues with mine that have MOSTLY been set right. Toyota gave me my first payment back and a Platinum 100K/7yr warranty because of my issues. If they would not have given me this, I would have traded the truck for another 16 or found a 15, if I could find one.

That said, the more I drive my truck, the more I like it and the better it seems to be adapting to my driving. My dad really likes my truck, but I told him to wait until 18 to get a new one if he's really serious about getting the 3rd gen.

Your truck will hold it's value, especially if Toyota doesn't get some things lined out, because people will be looking for 14's and 15's with low miles to keep forever. But I totally understand how you feel. I couldn't decide last year if I wanted to go ahead and get a 15 or wait a year and get the 16. I waited, and I'm glad I did because it allowed me to save up more money and things worked out for me with extra warranty, but that came with frustration.

Again, my 3rd gen isn't/wasn't perfect, but if you do take the plunge, see if the dealership will let you test drive it overnight and make sure it doesn't have some of the issues you see here in the forums. Lots of guys aren't having any problems, so if you get a good one, you'll be happy :)

I had a second gen before getting my 16, and I would never go back. Is the 16 perfect, no. But it's sure as hell better than my old truck.

And i guess if you really want to try and use forum posts (FFS) to "prove as fact" that these trucks have widespread issues like the other guy, go ahead.

For your position though, wait til the 17 comes out and pull the trigger. That probably makes the most sense.

Yeah I always get a good laugh when I see "it isn't fast". Well no crap, it's a truck and weighs over two tons before you add people and cargo. I had a Corvette for when I wanted some adrenaline and speed. I own a 2016 and have 5300 miles on mine. No issues at all.

If you came to these forums to look for things wrong with a 2016 you would find them everywhere because only the few that have issues will post loud and proud here. That being said, you just got a 15, unless financials don't play a role and you don't care about losing out on money, then go for it. I'd keep the 15 just because I'd want to pay it off and not have a vehicle payment.

Again, if you come to the forums for a specific truck, you are going to get the impression that the apocalypse has come and the truck shouldn't have been produced. Has there been issues? Yes, but if you look at the timelines that there have posted, every vehicle has the potential for issues and being a first year doesn't change anything.

Never said that as they are having issues. But to assume that because 100-200 (maybe) people on TW have issues that must mean that the overwhelming majority of the 10s of thousands of these trucks that have sold so far also have the same issues is pretty wild.

No one ever said that either, but if you ever took statistics or have owned a tacoma before and been in the forums before, statistically there are alot more problems with new trucks than before, saying not a good sign, sure there are plenty that probably are fine, but OP was asking if he should trade his perfectly fine, proven 2015 for a truck that may or may not have first year issues and has yet to prove its long term reliability. Come 2026 you can message me and tell me I'm an idiot posting your 200k+ problem free miles like almost every 2nd and 1st gen, but for now dosent seem that way. Im not bashing on the new truck, I test drove a few, and have owned 4 tacomas and would love to own another one, rooting for some ironing out and tweaks/fixes to current platform/gen.

Sorry dude, but there is a snowball's chance in hell that there is 2gr-fks supercharger.

Good luck on that. There will be maybe some one off custom builds but unlikely anything mainstream.

Now old 2gen trucks with 1GR are in luck, Hilux got 1GR starting this year with six speed and international computers are not all locked which means 2gen trucks should be able to get swaps now, and knowing international market there are going to be all kinds of setups to swap to 2gen. So we will probably see dual turbos, and bigger superchargers.

I have a 2015 DCLB SR5 Black and 2016 DCSB OR Inferno. I was hanging on to the 2015 just in case the 2016 did not work out. Well 1300 miles and a new transmission in the "16". The only other problem is the occasional engine surging. I must admit I prefer the 2016 looks, interior, options and is more fun to drive. That being said. I have not put the 2015 up for sale yet. But, I am getting close.

you could wait til 2017(but bet that toyota changes nothing or little to nothing) or keep the 15 and enjoy the tons of aftermarket stuff for it, and the so nice supercharger as well.

    I personally would keep the '15 if I didn't have a '16 already.

This is nuts. If I had vehicle that needed new transmission at 1300 miles I would have ditch it same day it was repaired. Like literally drive from Toyota dealer to lets say Ford dealer and never look back.
Some things are better left alone. Any new vehicle requiring new transmission is already bad vibe, never mind still having other problems.

Who says that the second gens were perfect with no problems? There is a f'in website with millions of posts on how to troubleshoot and fix your problems! I think it's called Tacoma world. I chose a 2015 because WHEN it breaks, more people have already solved the issue and are generous and kind enough to help me with the problem. Soon, the 3rd gens will have the same support. Once two or three years pass and the warranty is out, the group will start to solve their own problems. That is why I went 2015. The 2016 is a solid truck... It just needs time to shake out the bugs. God knows Toyota is just gonna put band aids and drag their feet until they are out of warranty!

It never ceases to entertain me when I see all these people saying "5000 miles on my 16 so far so good." Well fuck man, I sure as shit hope so... even a dodge can go 5000 miles without issues.
