I have found an 06 crew cab 4wd with 286k miles on it. Its mostly highway miles and was wo20160423_203950.jpg ndering what to look for before purchasing it?
Its the 4.0 with automatic transmission it also has the 2015 front clip with grille and sport headlights in it.

That price is quite high for that many miles, even with the upgraded front clip. Most of the time you wont get much when you upgrade things that are cosmetic. Listen for ticks, knocks, ect from motor, make sure the transmissions shifts well in every gear, frame rust, and take for a drive and see if it seems right. There are a couple people on here with over 300K on their trucks but they have been well taken care of. See if you can get a vehicle history, and if previous owner has kept records of oil changes, replaced parts, fluid changes. Things that start going out that may need replaced before too long if not sooner, wheel bearings, Axle shafts (front if 4x4), bushings, universal joints, carrier bearing. Im sure there is more to look at but this will give you a start

Thanks for the reply. Can you not go by the nada book on higher mileage? Trade value on this truck with the options is 13500 with the mileage. Retail is like 17k something

I may be wrong but most that i saw when looking for my truck last year were much cheaper than 14500. My truck 2 years newer (2008) and i have 4x4, leather, and had 160,000K less miles on it, from a dealer wasnt much more than the asking price of what hes asking for his. It will come down to, is it worth it to you for that price. If its mechanically sound, with nothing wore out, it may be worth that price. i know a lot of guys on here have bought truck that were 3-4K over worth because it had what they wanted in upgrades.

Also BTW Car Guru found a truck in FL, with 40K less miles on it 4x4, and instant market value would be 11K

Mileage is high. I bought my 06 last fall with 110k miles for 14k. It needed a carrier bearing, rear bumper and a rear axle seal. It also came with some scratches. I'd drive it at highway speeds, hard acceleration, hard stops, and crawl under and inspect the frame, axle seals,

Ive been all over and under this truck and its clean! No rust or mud. The first owner was in sales and racked up the miles. Id love to find one with less miles but they seem to be high as crap where im at. Lol

Since this one has an upgraded front end ,it would be worth paying for a carfax before even test driving the truck,i live in houston tx ,and here 99% of the trucks with the newer model front end swap are salvage title trucks,or have been in a front end colition, therefore when repaired the sellers buy the 2012 and up front parts instead of the same year parts...the reason i say this is because i have like 20 friends who have this kind of business...CARFAX,CARFAX,CARFAX..

I agree with you on that. Carfax shows one accident on drivers side bedside. The seller works at a toyota dealership and said he bought all the front end stuff for pretty cheap through his work. Title is clear also. Ive looked at it myself

Does this one have a 15 PRO front end conversion? I've seen it in Tuscaloosa.

Some guy on here today was selling a nice DCLB built for overlanding with much lower miles for 16k.

Tacoma or not I would not shell out almost 15k on a vehicle with 280k miles. I think you can do better.

According to KBB my 07 with 170,000 miles is worth about $15K. I don't see how one a year older and with 110,000 more miles can be worth the same. Chances are it will be a good truck for another 50-100K, but I don't think I'd pay that much. Run the numbers through www.kbb.com and see what the value shows in your area. In my zip code I'm showing $12K in Excellent condition. Which is actually more than I thought I'd get. With the mods $15K might not be as far off as I thought.

    That seems reasonable.

Y'all are crazy. I wouldn't pay more than $5000 for ANY Tacoma at 300k.
