    Hello TW,
The other night I was looking thru the forum and found where someone had put a bluetooth in the sun glass compartment in the top console. For the life of me I can't find it again. Has someone run across this or point me in the right direction. CA law went into effect of having the bluetooth handsfree devices to use the cell phone. I don't believe in talking on the phone while driving but sometimes you just have to. The help would be much appreciated. :)

Never heard of that mod....but here's another thread to check out.

    http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138931

You can also get GPS's and stereo head units that'll do it. Although...the GPS's are FM transmission which tends to lack in quality/reception.

I have a GPS that can do it....and if I could find a clean/clear FM station - it'd probably work better.

Apparently, blue tooth is available on the 2009 tacomas. I wonder if that's integrated with the head unit? and if it would fit to replace the older units?
    *probably cost too much anyway*

What I did was I got a Motorola Bluetooth handsfree which usually clips to the visor. I don't like anything in my field of view, especially anything which moves or has a flashing blue lite, like this things has (why people do this I'll never understand). No visual dsistractions = 32 years accident free driving.

I removed the visor clip and epoxied a rare earth magnet to the handsfree. Then I cut a piece of steel about 2x3/4 and glued this into the sunglass compartment (under the foam). Now the Bluetooth is out of my line of sight.

Then I took an USB lighter charger and pulled out the PC board. I wired the board (about 1x1 inch) directly into the console power supply, and cut and threaded the USB wire through a small hole I drilled in the sunglass compartment. That keeps the Bluetooth permanently charged.

Thank you for both suggestions. I might have to look into it, but there is a thread here in this forum that I saw. If I do find it also, I will post it for you in case you are interested in it. Mingy, great driving record. :D

I have a Pioneer DEH P700BT Headunit which gives you hands free bluetooth over the car audio system. I LOVE IT!!

Asgard I read your post about your new blue tooth in the sun glass box. How do you like it? Is it easy to hear and can the other person hear you good?

Quality is excellent, I have no problem with hearing the other person or the other person hearing me. No dropped calls or anything, the only very minor problem I have is the display lighting is white I wish it was amber to match my other display lights also it does not dim when I turn on my headlights. Thats about it no other complaints.

Great looking install - but I'm not sure that I want to sacrafice my sunglasses storage for it. I plan on getting the Kenwood DNX5120 that "should" handle the bluetooth deal for use with my Palm Centro.

No, it doesn't auto mute. You just have three wires to connect : ignition, 12v and ground.
