Sexy front end! Those ads are something else Huh?

Also, just my advice, I wouldn't do the spindles as your first welding project. No offense. If they are anything like the TC gussets I did on Marcs 2nd gen they won't line up great and also have some tricky spots.

Not all that hard. But I think you'll want more practice with it first. Preheating them is key too.

It's a nice welder though. Jealous. Wire up the 220v. 110v sucks haha

Looks great! It's going to be worth the wait, nice makeover. The coils will probably bring bigger smiles than the moto. It seams like you got them fast. Did you state where you got them? any sort of discount?

I've done just a little bit of welding before. Some of my welds look pretty bad, and some look OK. My swingout is still attached and most of that is my doing. :notsure:

Won't be welding much of anything on 110V. I've got access to 220V, just not setup in the garage right now.

Regardless, trying to figure out how to get them done this weekend or early next week. Want to put everything back together and test it out.

I put like 100-200 miles on that motorcycle in the last 2 years of owning it. I'll certainly get way more enjoyment out of the coilovers, and I'm still hanging on to one vintage bike to cruise around on, as well as my KTM.

They were ordered through DSMS, with a stated one to two week lead time. They shipped directly from ADS and I got them in 3 days, so I was pretty happy about that.

+1 on the 220. You can't weld much for long without tripping the breaker using 110. At least that's the way it was for us.

A couple more steps down. Going to have a busy week at work, but hoping to have it driving in a couple days.

I'm not so sure about the soup can, but wondering about my ability to weld thin wall exhaust tubing. I would like to have an exhaust that actually make it to the back of the truck again instead of dumping in front of the axle.

Nope, @sbchero welded them up this morning. Super thankful for the help, and quite envious of the shop!

And yes, new CVJs in there too. Might end up having to move the clamp on the high angle boot in just a bit though. It's very close to the coilover. Thankfully, they supplied an additional clamp for this reason.

Cool! Yeah he's a real cool guy. Very helpful. Those red boots can be moved. They put a small plastic tube between the shaft and boot. Push your boot up to where you want it then get a needle nose pliers and pull the plastic tube out then the boot sits tight and won't move.

    Welding exhaust is easy.
First thing you do is burn a big hole in it.
Second, spend about half an hour filling it back in.
Third, enlist the help of someone who knows wtf they're doing.

That's the way I've done it in the past.

they needed a bit of work to fit like i would like. you could take them and blast them on no prob. but with any of these parts there's some prep that is needed. depends on how big of a gap you are comfortable filling.

Yeah those 2nd gen ones need to be grinded on the lower part of the spindle where the hub bolts in. Then it will sit pretty goo.

My 1st gen one fit weird I the middle. It kind of needed to be filled. It's just fab work I guess.

    Lowered my truck:

    upload_2016-4-28_9-10-42.jpg

Thought about cranking up the coilovers a little bit, but I'll probably leave well enough alone. Also painted my bumper while it was ripped apart, installed Hella 4000s, and actually have both headlight fillers.

Have a few things to address still, but it's a lot closer to being ready for wheeling. Might end up with clearance issues to the resi with the larger tires. @at_olw you on here enough anymore to help me out? Saw a recent picture of your truck that looked like you had the resi stuffed up in the wheel well. Any pictures or info of that?

Happy that the new wheel bearings fixed my vibration as well.
