Well that was my 7 year old battery. depended on what I was using it in, but it just wouldnt last as long as it once did.

What are you using the drill for, specifically the high torque stuff?

And I've seen Ridgid and Makita have some nice stuff/features that dewalt drills dont have. But once you start with a set, its nice and easy to just keep on with that brand.

I'll throw a second vote for dewalt. Nothing but good experiences with them. Milwaukee is good too

I've got Ridgid air tools and compressor. Other than a nailer being picky about what nails you use, they work great and are good for the money.

the brand has been around for decades. The drills have been around for several years.
I've burned up numerous DeWalt's in under a years time for work. Used to swear by them until I had to start buying my own. I tried the Ridgid drills when they first came out and noticed a much longer run time, higher torque and just a better feel in the hand.

Well as long as you aren't trying to bore large holes in the studs regularly with forstner or hole saw or 3/8" or larger bits, a regular drill/driver should be enough for what you need. For a basic home setup, a drill/driver and impact would be a little more than needed, but the impact really is a nice tool to have. You can screw stuff in with a drill but many like having the impact for that.

Does the Dewalt, Rigid or other brands in the market come with extra batteries or do they all come with standard one battery?

Depends on the kits. Not sure about the other brands, but the Dewalt 20v battery comes in at least 3 sizes. 2, 3 and 5 Ah... the cheaper kits will usually come with 2amp. And 5Ah will run for a good while.

    depends on the kit.
for both brands you can get the basic set, drill, charger, battery.
then a kit with a second battery and maybe a 1/2" chuck instead of 3/8".
then you can go combo, I agree with the impact, handy little tool.
Trim saws are a waste for anything but trim.
reciprocating saws is kind of handy.
Flashlight and radio is always a win.
    whatever you want.

I've got 3 Ridgid drills. :anonymous:
The first is just a 2 battery, 1/2" chuck, hammer/drill/driver with a charger. Bought it when I started my business.
The second I bought because it was a sale combo pack with the drill, impact, recip, 2 batteries and a charger.
The third is a smaller drill, on sale for $75.00, that I bought for home use. still came with 2 batteries.
All the batteries fit all the tools so that's kind of nice.

Another thing is regular vs brushless motors. Brushless are supposed to (i think) run cooler, use less power, and last longer, and the prices will reflect that.

    Regular vs brushless.

And I'm not sure if any other brands are still dragging along the 18v stuff, I think I've seen Porter Cable does, but I would spend the extra 10 or 20 for 20v so you can buy more stuff later if you want. 18v stuff is going away... albeit slower than expected.

Yeah, I have 3 as well right now, although I keep using the cheap drill/driver for hole saw stuff since its the first one I grab. So it'll probably be out of comission sooner or later. I wish they would make a drill/driver that was the size of the impact... close but not there yet.

And @3378jakesr5 has a nice 20V impact gun that's awesome for lug nuts and car work. I may have to pick one up before redoing the front shocks. Speaking of, whats the model number on that beast? And do you have the detent pin or the hog ring and have any complaints?

And while we're talking about buying tools... I am all about buying/selling used stuff on Craigslist, but when you see someone selling a brand new power tool on Craigslist, it is 100% guaranteed stolen. If they bought it and didn't want it, they would've returned it. But they cant, because its stolen... and without a receipt they usually want a drivers license so they can track people who steal stuff to return it. So by buying a new one off Craigslist, at best, you are supporting the crime, at worse, that scumbag is just getting you to come to them so they can steal your money at gun/knife point.

Better to ask what I have not done.
If you edit and add me it does not send me an alert:p. Its the 20v brushless and i got the detent pin. I dont like the hog ring because it never likes to hold under a lot of use. And if your using it a lot then put the socket on so that the detent pin works. If tour going to change back and forth a lot just put the socket pn one of the the other three sides and you can easly pull it off. (Even with buffalo dip on your paws.)
