I have the Prem & Tech pkg with NO jbl. For about the same
price you'd spend on jbl you can get a MUCH better after market set up.

Im confused about it, im trying to buy the ********* ezq recurve to install amp on my stock stereo and its giving me an option whether its jbl or non jbl. And i dnt know what is. I actually thought all 3rd gens come with jbl audio systems. Especially premium technology

Nope, it's another option($700 or so) you have to choose. I've read the JBL systems
make it a bit more difficult to install after market setups or at least require
    extra parts.

JBL sounds great. Fiance has a 4Runner Trail premium without JBL and doesn't get very loud and doesn't sound all that good. JBL is definitely worth it.

The JBL option is a separate option. There is a JBL logo on the front of the stereo if you have it. I have it and love it. Some dudes say it sucks but they are on the weed.

JBL is an additional option. To get JBL, you must get the Prem/Tech package.

I'd say it's worth it. Clarity isn't that great, but it has plenty of bass, and gets loud.

I have the JBL and love it. Test drove a new Taco with JBL and then one without.....night and day. I'm sure you can beef up the standard system, but I've had a couple Tacos with the JBL and have been extremely happy with them.

JBL all day long. It's a nice system. If you're 21 and want to rip your new truck apart to install amps, go non-JBL. If you're a bit older and have better things to do, get the JBL. :)

Do you need to know, or care?
For the Canadians here only Limited has the JBL, and I really like the sound and deep bass from the subwoofer and plenty loud for me, but that's my opinion. Not available on any other models.

In the a non JBL truck I installed JL aftermarket door speakers and front tweeters and a JL 10" sub and it sounds super, IF it's playing a CD. Even lossless iTunes songs sound way worse than full format compact discs through the factory non JBL head unit. I'd be curious if through the JBL system it was the same

Can't really speak on the 3rd Gens, but the JBL systems on the 2nd Gens were a complete joke.

were working on it now but for now the recurve will only work for NON JBL tacomas

I'm in the Southeast Toyota Region. I was looking for premium JBL stereo on my Tacoma and was assured by the Dealer that it is absolutely not available in the Southeast. Probably a load of BS from them (I've already stumbled across a few other piles they left behind) so I can only repeat what I was told. If you are somewhere other than the Southeast Territory maybe you can get it.

JBL is absolutely available in the Southeast Region on TRD trucks with the prem and tech package. As you suspected, the dealer was lying through their teeth.
