Racks over bed, which route?

Good evening all,

I have been debating this for a while and have come to the conclusion I want racks OVER my tonneau cover.
I love the kbvoodoo rails but i have decided to go over the top for more range of the cross bars.

I have been looking around all day and i cant seem to choose anything. Need some help here.

I know i need tracks.
Is there a universal set of tracks that will work with other systems??? Rhino rack, Yakima, thule etc?
Can i use yakima stuff in rhino tracks? or Thule?

Or should i just find tracks that work together with the same brand?

I am looking for tracks and crossbars. I can find the kayak holders on Amazon reasonably cheap that are "universal"

Im not looking to break the bank but im not looking to have yaks sailing down the highway either.

I have no problem drilling through the plastic and sheet metal of the bed rails.

 

KB Voodoo also make one that goes over the top of a cover.....

I'm not 100% certain that will work for my needs. Yes it will keep stuff over the tonneau but it is more of a semi-permanent solution unless I feel like unbolting my tonneau rails to remove brackets and/or slide them to different positions?

 

It sounds like you want something that's easy on/ easy off that works over the tonneau cover. I have yet to see such a product, depending on the style of your cover. If you have a 1 piece hard shell cover you can do a Yakima or Thule rail system (and drill through the cover), but that won't put the boats above the cab -not sure if @kbvoodoo or Mobtown racks will either (you didn't specify boat length or weight). If you have a roll-up or multi-piece cover, you should look at the above mentioned vendors.

 

I have a lo roll tonneau.
I was thinking along the lines of adding universal tracks to the bed rails like some I have seen on here so I can slide cross bars into position for various things while keeping the bed compartment covered. I would like easy on and off. I use my bed for various things.

Height over the cab isn't a huge deal. Ideally it would be just high enough to roll my cover up or down while in place.

I have 2 - 10' kayaks 30-35lbs each. Those are the biggest things I would haul aside from the mopeds, bikes and lumber but those are easy to deal with for the most part.

 

or plan b would be to screw security and just get voodoo crossbars.
