Even after everyone said pass you are still considering a truck that rides like shit and has 200K miles? Why even ask our opinion. To each his own.

    Welcome.

    I'd pass on that truck.

You must persevere to find a Tacoma, it took me 6 months. I didn't look every day. I finally got a used Tacoma for a dealer in the next county.

One more thing to consider is although those tires look 'cool', BFG Mud Terrains (as opposed to the newer KM2) get noisier and more uncomfortable the more they wear. Been there; replaced them with not that many miles on two vehicles I bought with those tires on them.

the 4 banger is a great engine, gas mileage not much better than the V6, and slower, but lots of people have them and like them :woot:

4 cyl. 2nd gens are usually purchased by those wanting that engine specifically, and they are usually quite happy with them. They are reliable and apparently long-lived.

I didnt say I was going to buy it, I might buy it if he came down to like 11,000 and I had a mechanic look at it. If the shake was from bad rotors I can fix those for pretty cheap. I would also trade out tires for an all terrain, my friends owns a tire shop and said he would trade on those. Ive never had a Tacoma so my biggest issue was the engine. My uncle has a 1st gen Tacoma 4wd with 400,000 on it so I was just wondering if they second gen had that great engine like the previous ones did. Around here ones with 130,000 miles are like 17- 19,000 thousand. Thats a 4000 dollar difference so I thought maybe I would settle for the high miles since they are more of what I can afford. I would only be putting around 5,400 miles on it a year. I have a 4cyl car I drive daily to work because I live an hour away. Ill only be driving this truck once a week to work and then on weekends for around my farm and getaways to Arkansas for back packing and rock climbing(me not the truck). I have a 88 Jeep Comanche for that. I do think he is too high so I will try to get him to come down because that truck is exactly what Im wanting. Other than miles.. I dont want to be in debt and make a payment every month. Some people are okay with that but I would rather save up money then go buy one. Im picky on the colors. I dont like bright flashy colors. I prefer an automatic 6cyl with the double doors. It also has the bed outlet and a small lift that looks good on the truck. He may come down if it doesn't sell. Im kindof in a hurry because I just sold a truck and I wont have to pay sales takes within 180 days.

The fact that it shakes driving and braking means you will need to spend money to fix it. The 40 mph shake could easily be unbalanced tires, lug nuts that were improperly tightened, or something that will cost money. The braking shake means it needs new rotors - he probably drives fast and brakes hard - I'd be hesitant to buy a vehicle with half those miles who is driving like that and not having the issue addressed. $10K would be the max I'd pay, even if a trusted mechanic said everything looks good.

Good luck with your purchase. I'd say wait for a better deal, but everybody thinks a T is a dollar sign when it comes to vehicles. It may be time to finance through a dealer. There are still '15s to be found and lending rates are much better on new vehicles - in the long term this could be a better financial decision. I struggled with this issue when I bought mine. I went with a new one and am happy I did. Inheriting someone else's problems always sucks.

I definitely agree. They dont wear worth a crap and it feels like your driving a tractor with some. Those tires are NOT what I need. This truck will not be a mud truck if I purchase it. Ive already asked to trade for different tires from a friend who owns a tire shop.

I could finance but I dont want to. I dont want the full coverage insurance and the truck payment on top of that. Ive always just saved up and bought my rigs and have usually made great choices. Im not in debt and Id prefer to keep it that way. I could probably spend about 14,000 for a truck atm if it was the perfect truck.

I got my 06 Sport v6 crew cab with 110k miles for $14k cdn but it had some small dents and dings. I replaced an axle seal, centre bearing and the rear bumper within the first month of owning it but that only set me back $400.

It'd be worth saving that extra 4 grand for a nicer, lower mileage truck. Far less of a headache in the long run. As PackCon mentioned, with that mileage, you're in for some expensive upkeep items soon.

You sound like you're good with your money, and probably already have a great credit rating. Making on time vehicle payments could improve it even further, and there's no penalty for paying it all off before the term of the lending period is over.

Consider financing a lower mileage one? With the cash you have set aside, you could put a healthy down payment on it which will keep your monthly payments real low and use the rest to take care of the monthly payments for awhile while you continue to save up. Plus, a good downpayment on a truck with 100k miles or so would give you a very low monthly payment.

Just another option...lower miles will mean less to spend on the upkeep associated with a high mileage truck. I was in the same boat a couple months ago, my budget was about the same as your's but I was more intent on getting a first gen. Took some time and patience but the perfect one eventually came along. Good luck!

I'll join the chorus of people encouraging you to wait; with this one I really think you're going to be buying a truck that already has a few niggling issues and the nickel-and-diming you're going to go through (not to mention the time and frustration) trying to fix it is going to add up fast -- to the point where you'll have spent a grand or two that could have just been put toward a lower mileage, no excuses truck.

Good luck with the search. Trust us, there are plenty of trucks out there. You'll find yours.

That sounds like 6 months unless the math is different back there in Mizzou. Set your alarm for end of September, and until then be patient and shop carefully.

Or at least admit to yourself that you're impatient. Nothing wrong with that, but it's good to be straight with yourself. Sounds like you don't need the truck right away because you already have a daily driver and a 4x4.

This forum is clearly not going to give you any encouragement. This truck looks like a pretty iffy deal to us. Go ahead and get it, come back in 6 weeks and tell us about the pounding that your bank account took when you needed new ball joints, a brake job, new tires, etc. Then we'll say we told you so.

Reasons I wouldn't buy a truck, especially overpriced one:
    1. 200k+ miles
    2. New tires that I don't want and will replace (No value only added costs and work)
    3. Shake/Vibrations that are worrying enough to ask/research about
    4. Odd story that current owner randomly buys a new... Bigger truck and also buys new expensive parts for a truck he intends to sell.. Look at #2 again
    5. If he's too stingy to haggle a little with an eager buyer he's too stingy to take excessively and timely care of his truck. Oh and daily driver with lots of miles is worse than a cross country vacation truck imo

Pro's of this truck seems to be right color and local?
