You would be voiding the warranty either way with weld on or bolt on because you would have to make Swiss cheese out of the frame by drilling and void the corrosion warranty as you would with welding.
The advantage of welding is less labor and time along with wear and tear on drills and drill bits. Weld on is stronger and if you ever remove them, you wont have a frame full of holes!

 

My bolt on sliders required zero drilling, used the holes already in the frame.

 

I thought I have seen some that bolt up to existing holes in the frame. I think RCI has some that bolt up with out drilling, but I am not 100% on that.

Edit: Just checked out the RCI site and they claim that they bolt up to existing locations.

 

I have the RCI sliders and can confirm they bolt up to existing holes.

 

Stu488 do you have RCI sliders? They are the brand I am leaning more towards. Can you take a picture of your truck so I can see what they look like installed?

 

haha answered one of my questions before I could get it posted.

 

I took mine into the dealership last Friday to have the BSM checked (gave me malfunction errors 3 times since I got it) while I was taking it in, I had them check the tranny fluid because sometimes I noticed the symptoms others were describing. According to the SM, it was low on fluid, I asked how much, but the tech that worked on it had left for the day. According to the paperwork, the tech indicated that he used 2 quarts of fluid, so I am assuming anywhere between 1-2 qts. Results: Tranny does seem to be shifting a little 'consistently' but I'm not sure if that's just placebo effect.

I am very skeptical of Toyota QC not catching something like this at the factory, especially since they are known as the pinnacle of manufacturing efficiency/quality worldwide (Lots of case studies Toyota manufacturing practices done by industry and universities)

Bottom line: I just wanted to have something in writing in case I run into problems in the long run.
