Did you just use the stock setup with factory installed Towing package? If you added anything to help with towing (brake controller, anti-sway, etc.) what did you add?

If someone can afford to buy a new Prius they can surely afford to get a proper tow vehicle to tow every once in a while.

On the other hand I've seen a 1999 corolla towing a big sail boat. He wasn't having much fun but he was "towing" it.

We should be getting a trailer soon. 5x8 to tow around quad and dirt bike.

What's the big difference between 17/8 and 2 inch ball? Why do they make both?

Thanks for the tip on the milenco mirrors . i decided on the XXL model and ordered them from Amazon. They are not in stock at the cheapest place but I decided to order them and wait as I am not in a hurry for them . I hope they come in a few weeks though. Pretty pricey so I am thinking of taking them off when leaving the truck alone at the boat launch . Looks like they come off in seconds for the sticky finger types .

Yes it was the factory installed Tow package
Only thing I installed was a break controller, its required in AZ anything over 3,000lbs

Traded in my '14 TRD Sport Tacoma for a '16 TRD Sport in December and towed my trailer for the first time this past weekend. Trailer is about 3100lbs unpacked and probably about 3500-3750 packed up. I was in S4 who whole time with the ECT button engaged. My trip was very hilly (up and over a few mountain ranges). I thought that it towed pretty similar to my '14. I average about 10.8 MPGs - not great but it is what it is.

We have a 2014 Tacoma 4x4 Sport with a towing package. We are looking at a travel trailer that loaded will be around 3000 lbs. Is this Tacoma going to handle it okay. Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanx.

You'll be fine. Just make sure the tongue weight isn't too much. I think 500 pounds was the maximum recommended. You probably won't even notice the trailer much other than going up and down hills as well as braking.

Just from test driving the truck it seems as though the truck makes most of its power at higher rpms. This is a little bit of a departure from what people who had 2nd gen trucks were used to. Don't leave your 3rd gen in drive either. The overdrive gears are not made to be towed with especially up grades. You should be in 4th
