I have searched and searched. Havent been able to find a specific answer.

From what ive seen 4.56 gears plug and play right into stock. Seems that some people say 4.88s wont.

    I have a 2014 trd offroad.

Already know the pros and cons of running 4.56 vs 4.88.

Nit concerned about this because the highest speed limits here are 55. And only 2 5 mile stretches of road have that. Most are 45.

Not concerned like the mainland guys who gotta worry about the RPMs and 70-80mph. Want better offroad performance.

If this has already been discussed please post the link.

    Thanks.

I believe 4.88's should drop right in?

There's quite a few people on here who have them.

I really have no info. Just remembered seeing some guy say that " in order to run 4.88s you need to change out the front clamshell"
So i want to find out from people who have them.

    Like you. Thanks.

So yours were essentially plug and play.

If regearing the rear, you need to do the front to. The ECGS complete 3rd and clamshell swap is the easiest way to do it.

Definitely be doing both at same time.

    So you say clamshell swap.
Is that something you need to do for regearing the front no matter what 4.56 or 4.88. Or only if going 4.88?

If by "extras" you mean bearings and spacers, then id say that if you can get the bearing off the old pinion gear then you could reuse it. ECGS did mine but I've been inside several rear ends. As far as the diff swap being mentioned, basically what that means is you send your clamshell/differential to them and they send you a clamshell/differential with the gears you choose(if I'm reading that correctly). It's not necessary but it is convenient. You can have them send you one before you send yours in but there is a core charge.

No matter what gears you go with, if you have ecgs build them (which I highly reccomend, cheapest and best way to do it) then you just swap out the 3rd member and the front clamshell. 4.10, 4.56, 4.88, and 5.29 gears are all made for our trucks and fit no problem.

the clamshell is the front diff, so no matter what you have to take it out to regear. And yes if you regear the rear you have to regear the front at the same time

Call ecgs and talk to them. Be on their website so you can ask about all the options and see if that's what you want. Most people opt for solid spacers for the little extra cost

   (yes, I'm 12)

Last I checked, the 5.29 is not available for the front diff - not that I would have a use for it.

I think maybe what you heard is that you need to swap out the "carrier" which is the part that the pinion bolts up to. Even if true, it's not a big deal. I can't tell you for sure whether you need to because I swapped out to an ARB differential at the same time I re-geared (and 4cyl had 4.10 stock gears anyway, which is different from V6)

Depending on what tire size you go with and what transmission you have will determine gears.
For an auto tranny, If you aren't going any larger than a 33" tire go 4.56, if you want 35's then definitely go 4.88 gears. I have 4.88 gears on 33's and its insanely torquey, which I love, but also hard to stop completely you really have to pay attention and keep your foot on the brake when at a stop light or something.
If you are manual and stay with 33's go 4.10 gears, if you want 35's go 4.56.
    Also assuming you aren't supercharged...

Ive got an auto and plan to run 35s. But also am going to build a 7 foot offroad trailer to haul camp gear and my atv. All that weight i want 4.88s.

So i just need to change the carrier. That makes sense now. I understand.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Ill comtact ecgs and see what the deal is with living in hawaii.
