6 SPD Man tranny poll

I got a 6 speed manual, heard that after so many miles on it, it will get better gas mileage, love the truck regardless, but wanted some feedback on the MPG thing

 

Nope. Driving 65 mph on the highway w/ ur rpm's at 2600 sucks for mpg.

 

2600 @ 65mph,are you serious......my auto 5 speed turns 1700 @ 65

 

I am wondering this too! I have 9K on my v6 4x4 AC and get 16-18 MPG

 

There must be something wrong with your truck cause my 6 speed manual @ 75mph turns at 2500

EDIT: and to the poll i'm leaning more towards no

 

You have to use that sixth gear?? Joking i have a manual on the way, i always thought a manual got better gas milage?

 

I have a 2005 6spd 4X4 and mine only gets around 16-17. the other day I was driving on the hwy around 80 and I seriously only got about 14 mpg.

Nothing wrong with my truck. Might have exaggerated SLIGHTLY. But seriously the fuckin thing HOWLS on the highway.

same here, I have had it 2 weeks and filled it up a few times, doesnt help I got a 20 mile drive to work. turning at 2500 also when cruising at 75 mph

 

I just took delivery of my manual trans 4x4 as a fun weekend toy for getting to the desert etc. Let's just say it doesn't get great gas mileage - but neither did the predecessor, a 1988 22RE 4x4.

21-23 on the highway, always going the posted speed limit of 60 to 70mph.

2100rpms is more like it at 60-65 maybe 2400rpms at 70 but that seems high.

 

I'm planning on buying a used 6 speed Double Cab. I've ready that the 6 Speeds have lower gearing overall than the autos and thus 1 mpg less than the autos, would it make sense to get the same or slightly better hwy mileage when running 32's or 33's? My guess is that if the 6 speed does have lower gearing than the auto it will be less compromised by larger tires. Maybe larger tires would even help with hwy mpg (obviously not city mileage)

Is this correct?
