Hello all. I recently replaced my cv axle on drivers side (2nd or 3rd time now) and now I noticed that there is a fair amount of play on the inner cv where it goes into the front diff. This has never happened before, I made damn sure it was seated all the way in as far as it could go, and all seals and dust covers are there. I have a video of the movement, but can't get it off my phone currently.

Anyone else have this problem after replacing a cv axle? There shouldn't be any movement on the inner cv, it should seat in there and fit pretty tight correct?

Stock they have about 1/8-3/16ths of an inch of slip in and out of the diff, as well as some slop up and down. They are definitely not a tight fit.

Thanks for the input. Mine have always been very tight, almost no movement at all. Now there is what you call slop movement, in and out as well as up and down and it makes a very distinct sound/noise when hitting bumps that I have never heard before.

Pictures of slop in and out of the front diff on inner cv, measure roughly 2/10's - 3/10's of a millimeter. 1st pic is cv seated all the way into front diff, next 2 pics are of slop movement that allows cv to come out of front diff by 3/10's of a millimeter. Is this normal?

You didn't push it all the way in, it has to seat.

Look up needle bearing replacement. Common problem on these trucks. East coast gear supply makes a replacement.

Edit: didn't see those pictures :rain:

    Definitely didn't seat right.

Forgive my ignorance all but could the CV seal possibly be the culprit?

I made sure it was seated in as far as it could go, there was no way it was going in any further.

I could be wrong but I don't believe so, I inspected the seal and it looked to be ok to me.

Well I was trying to get ahead of the game and replaced my drivers side today, and this is the problem I'm dealing with after replacing it.

Thanks ordered it up, might as well replaced while I'm pulling the cv axle again. Hopefully it isn't too hard to pull the needle bearing and install the bushing.

Are you using OEM CV axle or brand X auto store one? Sometimes the Chinese made ones do not fit well
