Sorry to start another thread about 16 transmission issues, but I am looking for some advice. I was experiencing multiple issues with my 16 trd sport dclb w/tow pckg. I have the vibration when slowing down around 20 mph, the jolt that feels like I am rear ended after stopping, and a transmission that was acting up. Slipping into neutral, slipping into lower gears causing high revs, and overall poor performance. Took in for service and they agreed to trouble shoot the issues, and after some resistance, and me offering to pay, they agreed to do the physical check on the tranny fluid. They tell me they could not recreate my issues, but they did tell me they checked the fluid and it was full. I was not charged, and have paperwork stating that it was done. I had also painted the cap to tell if they had at least messed with it. Cap was in a different position upon pickup, so I assumed it was done. Took her in to a 2nd dealership who at least acknowledged my issues, though they didnt correct them. They did check the tranny fluid and gave me paperwork documenting I was 1.1 qts low. I am wondering what my options are here. Truck hasnt slipped since pickup from 2nd dealer. Still have jolt and vibration, and I have drove over 6k with low fluid. Overall, I am not really happy with the truck or service so far. What can I reasonably expect from Toyota pertaining to these matters? Sorry for the book. I would appreciate any input.

Never take it back to that dealer is about your only option. Filing a case
with Toyota will just have them telling you to return to the same place or
    take it to another dealer.

Post it up on Yelp can call the dealer out on it... that's what I did.

I had the same issue on my 2013 after a Tranny Flush at Dealer with Amsoil Full Synthetic,Tech underfilled by 2.2 Qts and for 3 months Felt that issue, thought it was a Service bulletin, was not! They R&R the entire Driveline as per S.B. and still was doing same thing! I did a Pan drain and Refill myself ,refilled with proper amount Amsoil WS Fluid and the Issue went away with the 3.2 as reqired in a Drain and fill after only 1.2 qts came out! Cant trust Bicycle Mechanics at Stealer ships ! Go Old School and check yourself !Thank GOD I had AMSOIL Signature Series in even thogh low, saved my Tranny with it! Companies don't do things right as years ago, Just trust your instinct and check yourself, SBs don't always get results!

Calling Toyota is always a good thing that way corporate knows whats happening in the field. My opinion is its a new truck and the techs need to learn how to work on them - learning curve = more time = less money for the techs at the end of the day so I would think some techs are cutting corners to get the job done.
I'm pretty much at the point where I will only take my truck to the dealer for warranty work; I.E. something broke and its covered under warranty. Even then I could probably get my dealer to pay MY garage to fix if I wanted to pursue that route.

I have called Toyota. First guy I spoke with said he upgraded my case to a Customer relations issue, and I am awaiting a call back. Other than that, the last thing he asked me was what I wanted to accomplish with my call. I told him that I would like my problems resolved, and since it seems as though the dealers will not or can not do so, that I am hoping after enough calls that Toyota would do something on their end. As I started to talk about the low fluid issue, he interrupted me to go on about upgrading the case. I am wondering if whoever calls is going to ask me the same question. I dont really know what I could realistically expect from them.

Smart man for painting the cap. I think many other members who supposedly had their fluid check probably also got the run around. Keep us posted!

You have two important pieces of paperwork here. One from the first dealer that said they checked it, and the other from the second dealer that proves dealer number one pencil whipped the document. Toyota may give you a free extended warranty on the tranny, but as far as doing anything to the dealers, No.
You however have the power to do that.
Facebook, Yelp, and TW are some good places to post these documents with the Name of Dealership Number One.

If I have time tonight I will post pics of the paperwork. The dealership in question was Koon's Toyota in Westminster M.D. I will not be back.

They did the same thing to me. Elevated case to some "manager" type. He just whispered a bunch of sweet nothings in my ear and said "Toyota will be there for me" down the line if I experience issues with the truck (drive train) even after/outside of warranty. I told him I'd feel better if I had something in writing. He said "you do" and referred to the dealership service department records that it had been an issue. I told him the service records did nothing to fix the issue. He had no response except to bring it back in to the dealers a third time. I asked about an extended warranty or something to provide me assurance, he side stepped that topic. Toyota took me out to prom night, popped my cherry and didn't even take me on a 2nd date.

Thank you. Believe it or not, Koon´s was one of my options to get the truck I want. I have found the truck within the price range and options at Koons and I was going to fly out and drive back. I guess I will reconsider now. I am glad I came across this, Thanks OP.

I think it is luck of the draw when you call Toyota and who you get. I had the transmission issues and did the check myself. (Jumper method, pinned stat) I was a little over 3/4 qt low. I started with a lengthy email to Toyota customer service, being polite, but asserting my belief as a life long Toyota owner that this was not acceptable from a company the advertises it product reliability.
I received a call two days later from a very pleasant woman, after some discussion about low AT fluid and diff fluid levels and mentioning I had been keeping up on social media with others experiencing the same issue. I was offered an extended Warranty free of charge on the "power train" for 72 months/72000 miles.
This is only a one year extension on the existing warranty, but figured it was at least something. And I will probably be buying a TRD Pro in five years if we are still driving our own vehicles then and not sitting in a robot car.
You have the paperwork to prove the error on the dealership and their less than ethical action of lying to you. Or the tech just didn't know what he was doing and used a scan gauge.
Be polite, don't curse, remember the person you are talking to didn't create the issue
Tell them that as a result of operating you transmission at low fluid levels you have concerns about its durability and think because the first dealer didn't do the check correctly you should receive an extended warranty on the transmission in writing. I did receive a letter outlining the extended warranty as was discussed on the phone about a week latter with reference to the case and a file number. I have read others in this forum who received 100,000 mile complete warranties. Just remember if you curse or yell they won't hear you. Kill them with kindness.
I spoke to a woman named Rebecca.
    Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I know smitty got screwed. Like I said it can be luck of the draw just like in other customer relations. You can get someone who will go out of their way to help you, or you can get someone that doesn't give a flying f**k

Seeing how complicated Toyota has made checking the trans fluid on these things, it's quite possible that they checked it incorrectly and indeed thought they were good. It's at least a sign that they removed the fill cap.

The 2nd dealer added fluid so they could be reimbursed by the factory for the time to check it, since the first dealer had already submitted a warranty charge for the time.
You may now have an overfilled transmission (if they actually added the oil) and your seals will be leaking in the future just like a Chevy, Ford and Chrysler trans do on your driveway.
But if not, it just goes to prove that not many are yet equipped or sufficiently trained to handle the check procedure and ppl should stop worrying and leave the trans alone.
Moreover, If they couldn't duplicate you vibration but you still feel it, go back and ask them for a ride along 2 with the tech so you can show him/them that you're not imagining things.
If all else fails and you're unhappy trade it in now before you put on more miles.
    Good luck

My 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 had 156k miles and never had a leak. In fact, kind of missing the power and transmission it had these days. Just not the suspension...

Maybe it was low on oil because it leaked out smitty lmaoo!
But quite possible you hit the gods of good fortune on that. But not really.
The Rangers were good little trucks. I have a friend who still has one must be around 18+ old at least or there about. it has Manuel trans so it's only needed a clutch.
But if I remember correctly, those were the exact Mazda B200 trucks and they were very well made by Mazda in the same assembly line, or so I was told, can't verify.
I'm not surprised therefore the reason you didn't have leaks.

But seriously as for our trucks, it’s hard to overfill the tranny in ours because the plug being on the side prevents it when it is checked at warm temperature by spilling it out. But if they check it when it’s still cold, I suppose it could happened.
Either way, I believe that if there is a problem Toyota will send out a notice and will most likely extend the warranty on those that were found low.
Until then, I'm afraid more damage could be done by dealer personnel messing around something they may not yet be fully experience with.
    Cheers!

I installed the go pro in the mount in the cab, installed one under the hood, and mounted one under the truck on the Frame just for the dealership service and turned them all on. Don't trust anyone these days . At least you can have proof if they say they did something and the video shows otherwise
