Ok so the rims I'm getting are 9in in width and my stock rims are 7.5in and the tires that are on the stock rims are 265/70/17 would those tires still work on the new rims?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Most tire manufacturers give you wheel specs that are allowed for a tire. More often it's the minimum wheel width that matters. I think a 9" should be fine with a tire that size, but, no one will know without knowing exactly what kind of tire you have.

That size is usually ok for rim width of 7-8.5"

With 9" you're pushing it. They may not mount, or may not hold a bead as well. I would go for a narrower rim or a wider tire.

True, but it depends on the tire. A BFG Long Trail T/A for instance is 7-9" wide wheel. Sure it's not the standard, but, without knowing the tire and checking the mfg no one can know for sure.

For what it's worth some guys stretch their tires like mad "just fine." :puke:

wider rims also leave your sidewalls more exposed to rocks and shit when offroading leading to a higher likelihood of blowout. (unrepairable sidewall blowout)
