Hi, all. My '01 DC project truck is in need of new rocker panels on both sides...

Has anyone ever replaced these on their 1st gen? I've been having a hard time finding any information on the subject, and an even harder time finding the correct replacement parts. I feel confident in replacing them myself, I just can't find the information I need.

So, does anyone have any input or experience in this matter?

if this is an offroad project truck I'd consider replacing them with 2x4" square tube

Bump. I ordered replacement outer panels from Toyota today.

    Anyone ever changed these out?

I didn't think one could change rocker panels, at least not by unscrewing one and then screwing on a new one. They are integral to the body. But maybe you meant that you ordered a rocker panel cover?

I have a small dent in my rocker panel that I would like to cover up. Can you tell me the part number that you ordered so I can see what you're getting? Thanks in advance.

I've done rockers on a number of different vehicles, but as yet not my Tacoma(figure I'll have to repair the frame first). The procedure is pretty much the same no matter what vehicle, cut out the old and weld in the new and a bit of bondo and paint to make it look pretty.

Nope, I ordered all-new panels. Like magog said^, you need to cut the old ones out and weld the new ones in.

[Thread-from-dead bump] Having the same problem as OP, not a lot of info out there on Tacoma rocker repair. Been slacking on fixing the giant rust holes on the driver side of my Upstate NY '01 taco, and winter's coming.

Any ever done/seen a job with 2" x 4" rectangular tube? Not too concerned about aesthetics.
