I test drove a 3rd gen stick shift trd sport and wasnt overly impressed for the price. Ive been holding out to see what jeep brings to the table and check out the TRD pro. Im planning on test driving a frontier pro 4x stick shift next week for the hell of it. I hate the look of the front of the truck but figured id give it a shot. Anyone trade a frontier for their 3rd gen? Thoughts?

I have driven a current gen frontier, and it's like stepping back in time. The truck has not aged well both in interior and ride quality. I would rather buy a 2nd gen (facelift) Tacoma, than a brand new Frontier. It's just not my cup of tea.

Might be worth waiting for next-gen Frontier. Lots of dissatisfied 2016 owners here. Might have the option for a baby Cummins too.

Yea its definitely aged since its been the same since 05 but id definitely buy a 2nd gen taco before a 3rd gen at this point with all the issues. Not to mention the next gen frontier is going to be butt ugly if its the same navara next gen. Atleast the current gen frontier has been around long enough that it should be a solid truck by this point.

Traded a 2014 Xterra (same drive train and chassis as Frontier). The Xterra engine/transmission was more responsive and felt more powerful at all revs, but I still prefer my new 2016 TRD OR (I dont have the issues that many have, tranny hesitation, vibration, ET). Just took it in for first scheduled service and had them check rear u-bolts, diff. levels, grease u-joint. All were ok. I am sure some people have legitimate complaints, but there is too much general hysteria about 'problems' that are not problems at all.

That said, from my experience with the Xterra I would probably buy a current Frontier, than a 2nd Gen Taco, yes both are dated.

If you see what the next gen frontier is going to look like you might disagree. I would never buy a diesel made after 2006 as 07 was when the EPA nerfed diesel engines so dont really care about the cummins option unless trump wins and gets rid of the EPA lol.

I liked the old titan, but the new one is not a good looking truck IMO.

I don't have any issues with my 3rd gen - If you spend enough time here, you'll see that many of the issues are regurgitated by the same people over and over. The most popular thread here "what have you done..." has nothing but happy owners.

Get a Frontier with the luxury package so then interior doesn't look as date. It's a simple work Truck so it shouldn't look fancy.

Problem is just like with any company now you get very little options when you want a manual. Just an example pro4x auto has leather, manual does not. Just like how you cant get a long bed in stick on the taco. Thats really the only reason im looking at the frontier is because its stick. Taco and frontier are the only options in 4x4 gas trucks now, hoping the jeep stays true and offers a stick, wish they would drop some more news on it but if its anything close to the crew chief 715 ill be on board.

I had an 06 Frontier and loved it until it was totaled by an 80 year old man turning left in front of me. When I bought my 15 TRD OR pre owned I looked at the newer Frontiers too but they were the exact same truck now as they were 10 years ago with a very minor face lift that dates to 2009. While still old the Tacoma didn't feel nearly as old inside as the Frontier with the Entune radio and white faced gauges. Also I still have a few friends who own Frontiers and they still have the sames issues with the tans fluid in the radiator, bad timing chain guides, idler pullies failing that they did 10 years ago.

Does that include 2010 and newer Frontiers with those issues because I've looked on there forum and there is not really any model year in the last 5 years with those issues.

A good friend of mine still owns a 06 and is a service writer at a dealer in Greenville SC. all the same issues. Now a manual truck wont have the cross contamination issue an auto truck will have.

The interior is a step back from a Tacoma. Nissan products feel cheap on the inside.

Thats definitely true but if the price is significantlycheaper too i guess that makes it ok. The taco definitely isnt very nice in the cab either but atleast the frontier offers a more adjustable seat and power seats but only on auto models, i guess nissan figured if you want a manual shift that you also want a manual seat lol

The pictures you have seen of the next gen Frontier are not necessarily what the next gen Frontier will look like. What you saw was the global Nissan Navara. Seriously, who would leak their exterior styling two years before release? Fanboy all you want but Toyota left a lot of people wanting more.

I had a frontier and loved it. Liked it much better then the second gen Tacoma so I went with that instead coming out of a 1st gen Tacoma. I thought the interior was a lot nicer in the frontier and I liked the way I sat in the truck better. Plus the just liked the ergonomics overall better than the 2nd gen. I was in a new loaded pro-x 4 the other day and it was pretty sharp. However to me I don't think you really can compare it to a 3rd gen. Once the new frontier comes out next year then I would. Unless I got a ton of money off in rebates I wouldn't buy another frontier right now, but maybe for you it makes sense.

The next gen frontier pics I've seen make it look like a minivan. But the third gen tacoma drives like a minivan. So there's that
