Lose? Hell no, you won the Tacoma lottery! Take the insurance money and buy an aluminum winch bumper.

I've heard from some that a bumper like that is a good idea and some say it's a bad idea.

Some say its a good idea to have a Tacoma. Some say its a bad idea.

Concept isn't that different. Every choice made around a vehicle is some form of compromise.

Question is just what works for you.

Will insurance cover liability at 100% if you hit something with a steel bumper? Do you have to notify them if you upgrade?

Not an insurance agent, not an attorney, didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn. But in 37 years of driving I have never heard even a rumor of anyone being held liable for damages due to a steel bumper nor being denied coverage because of one.

This likely would only happen if one was involved in a serious accident with permanent damages sustained by someone, but it can happen. It's harder for a lawyer to argue if the modifications are legal though.
State laws vary heavily and determine how easy it is to argue liability in a courtroom.
A circumstance I can realistically see is someone with a fab front bumper hitting a pedestrian.

It's possible, I've looked around at different bumpers.

Speaking of bad luck, last September I paid off my truck by making double payments and busting my hump to get it paid off early. First week in November I hit a deer. It came out of the woods full speed and no way to avoid it. Got it fixed before Christmas. January my credit card payment got lost in the mail. February my credit card info got stolen and my card was hit with charges. Last week in February I hit another deer. Plus some health issues that are costing me an arm and a leg. Sometimes it feels like you just can't win.

I had damage that didn't look quite as bad as yours and my insurance estimate was somewhere around $3000, more than enough to get a plate bumper if you want. I was stupid and didn't got that route and now really wish I had.

Just have to keep in mind all that a heavier front bumper entails, which I'm sure you know.

For Fiddle, I say this: To bolt on a heavier bumper usually means the front suspension needs a little love, too.

Definitely looks worse than I think it is. The ARB I have is airbag compatible, whatever that entails. I would totally find a raw silver aluminium bumper for that, it would look bad ass....then a lift, tires, air lockers, gears, supercharger.......lol....this is how it begins!
