Hey guys, so this may be a silly question. But do I actually need the crappy traction control in my pick up? Lately it does more harm than good. I do the hold the button until it turns off trick, but sometimes it still turns on. It turned on while I was taking a turn and shoved me all the way into the other lane. It was pretty sketchy. Is it possible to just unplug it? And if so, would it do harm to anything?? Any ideas or suggestions I'm open to, I just want it gone...thanks in advance

Hold the button down for like 5-7 seconds. Should light up TRAC off light in dash. It turns back on every time you turn your truck off.

Yeah. I do that. But sometimes it still comes on. It seems like it does more harm than good at this point.

Our traction control sucks. I have never had mine come back on without turning the truck off. Are you 4x4?

Yeah. It's 4x4. I love the truck. Hate traction control. It seems like it only comes on when I take a right handed turn that dips downward. It's strange. I took it to a shop and they said nothing was wrong with it because they couldn't get it to do anything when they test drove it. So I really have no clue what to do with it.

If you're lifted, there is a computer adjustable, flash actually, on a sensor that I'm forgetting the name of. Like a gyroscope that senses cornering forces. It gets out of wack on some trucks that are lifted.

I thought it always comes back on above 30 mph?

Installed Cooper At/3's (265/70R16) and ProComp 7089 Rims. Tinted front windows. Did the Fog Light Anytime mod. Did the tailgate mod. Added running boards. Adding sound Deadening from RAAMaudio. Replacing stock speakers with Polk Audio DB6501's.
This "may" help (or muddy the issue)... http://www.ttguide.net/driving_assist_systems-74.html

■Automatic TRAC reactivation (AUTO LSD mode)

With AUTO LSD mode, VSC OFF and AUTO LSD indicator lights turn on.
The TRAC system will turn on when the vehicle speed increases.

■Automatic TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control reactivation

If the TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control systems are turned off, the systems will not turn on even when vehicle speed increases.

Not sure what "AUTO LSD mode" is.

When I turn my crap TC off, I press both the truck with burn offs, and the RSCA buttons . Press both for like 5-7 seconds, both light up as off in the dash. Then do doughnuts and burn offs with no Traction Control interference.

Try driving faster than 30 MPH and report back. My money says the dash lights turn off.

Same problem with my 2009 (4x4, no lift, slightly larger tires). It occasionally kicks in when quickly reversing direction and dropping a bit on mountain roads. I found it tends to happen right after tire rotation, so it may be at least partially cased by a small change in tire diameter tricking the system into thinking they're slipping when they're not. I've made it a habit to disable it for at least the first few hundred miles after new tires or rotation. Never had it come back on while driving (*yet).

I had the dealer check it twice and they say nothing's wrong, but they don't really have facilities to test something like this. Wish they could, because it's downright dangerous having to fight it to stay in the lane.

Ok. So how do I fix that? Is that a shop thing I'm guessing?

Yeah. That's for sure. I have a 3" leveling kit and wide tires on it right now. It started happening really bad once I got the new wider tires. Almost caused a wreck the other day. Threw me into the other lane. It was almost bad. I really need to do something with it.

Generally if I hold the button for 5-7 second like has been suggested...it stays off. If you just push the button without holding it down it will turn back on at a certain speed.

That's another question I have...down by my power outlets there is a A-Trac button. What does it do?? Lol

Apparently nobody read the thread I posted. Print this document, bring it to your dealership, tell them you want it done. The sensor is not calibrated correctly due to lift.

As I understand it, A-Trac is just a "4low optimized" limited slip algorithm in the computer. Nothing more. Only works in 4-low.

FWIW, I had this issue with no lift. I had the dealer do VSC calibration after reading your thread and it reduced the frequency of the problem, but didn't end it. Still happens sometimes after rotating tires.

I tried that. The first time I took it to the dealership. They said they weren't going to do it because they couldn't get the truck to do what I said it was doing. Thru told me they wouldn't do it for no reason.

That's messed up because the very first line of the repair sheet says "Do this when VCS related components are changed or after four wheel alignment". I'd try another dealership.
