Makes me glad to have a Honda XR650L instead of a V-Strom. :turtleride:

I drove that byway some years ago just to muck about; the main road is car-friendly, but I didn't take any of the side roads. The geology is certainly interesting, thanks for posting the links.

No problem. As a side note, Gordy's (Johnson) Hill OHV area is about 20 minutes to the north, and offers everything from mild to buggy trails. We could do some sightseeing, then head up to Gordy's and let everyone get as crazy as they want to get.

Yes you do. I'm looking forward to seeing how that straight six works out for you.

OK, so there has been some interest in a shooting trip that I've offered to host. I should have my new suspension on by May 11th, hopefully, so I'd like to shake it out with the weight of untold amounts of bacon, guns & ammo. The weekend of May 14-15 would work for me, and I intend to use the place I usually use, which is approximately 10 miles west of US 550 on Cabezon Road, which heads west just south of San Ysidro. Unless it rains, Cabezon is mostly car-friendly (the very last bit requires some ground clearance), but there are side roads here & there. I will provide some guns & plenty of ammo (.22LR, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .44 Special & Magnum, .45 Colt, .454 Casull Super Magnum, 9mm, .45 Auto, 7.62 x 39, 7.62 x 51 & 7.62 x 54R). :infantry: We could meet in the morning, say around 8 or 9am, at whatever place in Bernalillo works for everyone. Range rules will be common-sense safety rules including the basic gun safety rules and good communication/listening, agreed to by all, no stupid fecking around, but no "Safety Nazis" either, this should be fun. Targets will be various containers etc., CD players & whatever and stuffed toys, no bottles or glass (the last time I was out there I blew a Kenwood Excelon CD changer to Flanders). I bring boxes & gloves and pick up after myself; this will be expected of all. Hopefully, there will be a few experienced folks there to help those with little or no firearm experience, and I know we have quite a few on here w/military experience. :oldglory:

I have never hosted a meet before, so feel free to pitch in & help me get this set up, if ya want.

Damn, sounds like there's a good possibility of coming home with sore hands!

I'm off that weekend, so I should be able to make it. I've got a .40, a 9mm, and a 12 gauge I can bring along.

The rules all sound good to me.

I am game! Either of those days works for me. I can bring my AR, 1022 and G19. Don't have a ton of 5.56 to share, but if someone wants to buy a box and shoot it you are more than welcome. Will have 22lr an 9mm to share.

    I'm getting a little excited.

This day may result in me spending money on new firearms.

    ^^^^^ :D

Let's shoot for Saturday the 14th, then; seems to work for more folks. I've never shot an AR; I may just go buy some ammo. :woot:

I should be able to go on the 14th, but bacon and guns in the same place?! You may tear a hole in the space-time continuum!

I can see about cleaning up my old coleman stove for more bacon cooking surface area.

To be clear, I will be bringing a great deal of ammo, and expect to go home with many spent cases; no one should stay away just because they don't have guns or ammo. I will probably bring most or all of the following guns:

    HANDGUNS -
    S&W 5906 9mm
    Kimber Stainless II .45 Auto
    Sig P220 .45 Auto
    Ruger Security-Six .357 Magnum
    Ruger GP-100 .357 Magnum
    S&W 66 .357 Magnum
    Ruger Redhawk .41 Magnum
    Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum
Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull Super Magnum

    LONG GUNS -
    Ruger 10/22 .22LR
    Yugo SKS 7.62x39
    Saiga .308 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester)
    Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54R

Happiness is a warm gun. :turtleride:

I usually fry it all up the night before & put it in Tupperware; cold bacon is better than it sounds. :) I look forward to meeting you.

    Add to that list:

Springfield Armory XDM .40 4.5" full size
    Smith & Wesson M&P9c
    Remington 870

I'll bring a couple hundred 9mm and .40 rounds, and a box of shotgun shells. I'll probably grab a box of ammo to shoot Chris' AR as well.

Hmm, sounds different, but I don't think it's possible to have non delicious bacon!

    My stuff:
    M9 9mm
    LCP. 380
Couple 22 rifles and a pistol
Couple mosin nagants if I get them cleaned up and back together.
    870 Remington

    Think that's it.
