Yes, it is also suspicious how it goes away once you release the throttle. I also feel the same type of buzzing in the steering wheel every now and then during idle when I first turn the truck on (but not as intense).

What gets me though is that some people say they don't feel the vibration at all or that it seems to happen mostly to 4wd owners. Although the extra differential adds more mass and more opportunities for something grounding out.

You say a couple dealers thought it was the engine mounts. Did they try to replace them and notice any difference whatsoever?

And Doobie, thanks for keeping up with this, I feel you are the best chance for a fix to show up!

lol, nope! guess you didn't hear :D it's normal!! That's actually what
they both told me. They straight up lied about the service they performed as well
so I would expect no less from them regarding the vibe.

On the phone and recording two problems to Customer complaints. The gas pedal vibrations and the extremely thin paint on the super white bumper. Call in guys. She is saying they have very few complaints.

No buzzing vibration in the steering wheel though? Around 2100-2400 rpm

A little. Really just bees in my pedal. I wonder if it is the Harmonic vibration due to the Outer diff Bearing.

has anyone who has this issue tried taking off the front air dam? I took mine off and it seems like the vibrations have gotten less noticeable...

Still think it's harmonics and there would be a simple and quick fix, with oil filled mounts, like they use on the passenger cars/SUV's with the 3.5.

No, but a few pages back I asked if anyone measured their driveline angles. I crudely measured mine and they seemed off, so it is going to be something I ask the dealer to check. Especially since I have the low speed vibration as well. And with people saying it changes with load in the bed, all signs point to pinion angle. If I could find a hundred pounds or two I would try it.

But if it was a motor mount design issue, I would expect every truck to have it in similar severity.

    My three theories are:

    1. Engine/trans assembly not neutralized on mounts properly.

    2. Something is grounding out against the chassis/frame

    3. Oddly coincident harmonics of driveline angles being off.

I don't really feel it as intensely when reving in neutral which leads me to believe the engine components are fine, and it doesn't change if I turn the wheel back and forth which keeps me from believing it is a power steering issue.

Gotta love Toyota Customer Care. My case manager notified me that the vehicle has "no defect" and the dealership seconded that (even though the tech documented that the vibration was felt and present). I kinda assumed this was going to be the outcome. The case manager was nice but when asked if she ever heard of this issue, she said she didn't. I've already had (3) customer reps admit that they've heard this complaint from customers. In conclusion, she said my case will remain open and that encourage others to call into complain so Toyota is aware.

On another note, I am going to throw some weight in the bed (about 200 lbs) to see if it affects the driveline angle (and the corresponding vibration). Can't hurt to try. I know when others have put the truck in neutral and revved the engine, they feel zero vibration in the pedal or steering wheel (including myself).

Does this rule out the driveline or by contrast, does it narrow it down to the driveline? I'm new to all of this so sorry for the seemingly simple question.

My truck has a buzz that seems lessened when running 93 octane fuel. Not gone but more tolerable.

I also discovered over 6k miles that wearing different shoes made a difference in the gas pedal buzz. Seemed that the softer the sole the less buzziness felt in the foot. My observations indicated that the gas pedal does not buzz much, but the floor under the gas pedal does. I tried many things to dampen the buzz and found the best result by removing the floormat and replacing it with a piece of the "anti-fatigue" foam runner used commercially. This simple thing dramatically reduced the remaining gas pedal vibration feeling on my truck.

Has to be a wearable part. I had no vibes until the past couple weeks. Dropping off my truck now monday. See what they say.

Interesting... while my vibration isn't too bad just yet, I had thought about putting some dampener material on the pedal itself.

I revved to 2100 in neutral and could barely feel it in the steering wheel, but it was there. I wouldn't notice it though if I wasn't searching hard for it.

Typically engine related issues are RPM related. Driveline issues tend to be linked to vehicle speed or certain conditions like acceleration/deceleration. The fact that it shows up at 2100 rpm or so in any gear (however, a lot LESS in 1st, actually similar to revving in neutral) makes me hesitant to say driveline for sure.

I would check motor and transmission mount torques, but somebody already said a tech adjusted theirs and it didn't make it better.

Neutralizing the mounts, by slightly loosening the engine and transmission mounts and then putting it in drive then park (or slipping the clutch for manuals) would be the next thing I'd try if I could not find anything possibly grounding out on the frame or chassis.

However, I would much rather Toyota figure out what's wrong than messing around with my truck still under warranty.

    Here is what I've found:

    1. Occurs at 2000/2100-2400 RPM

    2. Occurs at a much, much higher intensity when on a slight incline or going up hill

    3. Significantly decreases when releasing the throttle.

    4. The highest intensity transfers from the pedals/floor to the steering wheel at certain RPMs

    5. Hardly noticeable in neutral or 1st gear.

Have the same issue (mfg Jan 2016, 4WD, Off Road, Access Cab, 6 cyl automatic)- vibration in steering wheel and gas pedal especially noticeable at higher speeds. Just took to Toyota of Oxnard, have never heard of the issue, of course. The mechanic assigned to the issue could not finds anything (although it appeared he only looked for codes) and ended up testing a similar Tacoma . He discovered that both Tacomas had similar issues and determined it to be "normal operation". I should note the only difference is that my truck was outfitted with a Snugtop. I kind of find it hard to believe that Toyota is not stepping up to the plate to address this issue. Several of you have mentioned contacting Toyota Customer Care - which I think is a great idea - how did you go about making that contact without going through the dealer? If there is anything else I can do to escalate this issue please advise.

Call Toyota at 800-331-4331 and open a case! Everyone should be doing this that has the issue.
