Yes lol i have, have you seen how much used pro4xs go for? Not much less than a tacoma figuring in the initial cost is less the the tacoma to begin with. Here is an example of a 2011 pro4x and a 2011 trd sport with similar mileage. Given that a pro4x is roughly 3k less than a taco to begin with you are in roughly the same ball park, yes the taco probably comes out on top, but not by so much that you should base your purchase on resale value.

The difference is the taco will sell athe advertised price and the Nissan could be haggled for much less. :)

Also I agree, never buy based on resale value. I didn't. I drove the frontier and it did not age well.

I dont see how the high resale value like that makes sense to be honest. You would think it would hurt used sales simply because whos going to buy a 30k used truck with 50k miles on it if they can buy a brand new one for 4k more?

You're just guessing at that though. No one ever pays the advertised price on a used vehicle from a dealer unless you're a sucker. I get it you own a taco so you want to believe its almighty but numbers and research dont lie.

This has been discussed many times here and other forums.

Believe it or not a lot of folks can't qualify for a new car loan...

I'm also a wrx fanatic and I can't tell you how many kids buy a 23k wrx that's 5 years old when a new 2016 base can be had for 26. They don't care. They just want to get into one no matter the cost.

The 3rd generation is a great truck. All the issues are with a small group of owners and most other owners are very satisfied with their purchase. If you own a 3rd generation and are very unhappy with it, sell it. Anyone thinking of purchasing a 3rd generation, I say go for it.

Usually banks base loans on an amount of money though not so much if a vehicle is new or used. Its like saying id qualify to buy a used 2006 H1 for 100k+ but not a brand new TRD pro for 40k+. Someone who can qualify for a 30k used loan should typically be able to qualify for a 34k new loan, unless 30k was the max amount they could qualify for, new or used shouldn't have anything to do with it.

My comment was in jest. Notice the smiley. I am partial to no brand. I am an enthusiastic of all vehicles.

Idk man i bought a brand new subie forester in 2014 a 1st year for the remodel and was a frequent member on their forums and never seen any problems like i do here. I mean everyday i come here theres someone new with a similar problem or new problem. I was very close to buying a 3rd gen but after a test drive of a trd sport stick shift i wasnt impressed for the price, not to mention the shifter vibrates all over the place like its a UD diesel truck and the sales guy informed me thats how all tacomas are which is kind of a joke if you ask me, obviously has no effect on function but a vibrating stick on a 35k truck is silly to me.

The Tacoma may not be a good choice for you, based on your test drive. Check out the frontier, and let us know what you think.

I definitely will. Im planning on test driving a 6sp pro4x next week, it will be my first time in one so who knows i could hate it lol. In the end im in no rush to buy and still want to wait and see what jeep releases for a truck and what the price tag on the trd pro is going to be and if theyll even be reasonably obtainable without paying over sticker. Dont get me wrong i do like the tacoma, and thats why im on here in the first place, i just do extensive research before i make a decision on a vehicle, i like talking to the sales guy and knowing way more than he does lol it makes buying an entertaining process.

I'm the same way! I do a ton of research and sign up to all the appropriate forums and read quite a bit before I buy any vehicle.

With the issues I've been having with my Tacoma, I have been considering the Colorado, Canyon, and Frontier. Fortunately for Toyota, I have to honestly admit that the 3rd gen is heads and tails above what any of the others. The fit and finish is typical crap GM quality for the Colorado and Canyon. The steering wheels on those trucks feels awful and the rest feels cheap. The frontier feels like you are paying full price for a 10 year old used truck.

That said I am one more serious issue away from ditching the Tacoma for...something. Maybe a 4runner if I have to settle for a non truck.

    edit:

When you test drive a Tacoma. Get it to 55-60mph on the highway and feather the throttle, let off and coast, add gas...it will howl. They all do. Just see if its something you can live with. Also, find a way to make sure you brake from 45 -> 0. There *will* be a rumble strip feeling ~24mph and downward. Make sure you can live with it. The brakes will pulsate a little during low speed braking. Pump the brake while parked and you can feel something actuate and pulsate in the brake pedal. Make sure you are okay with that before you buy.

The truck will shift A LOT. if you can manage to get it between 2100-2500 RPM it will vibrate and be much louder. Make sure you are okay with both of those issues.

I would have to recommend waiting on the Tacoma until they fix the issues-which will sadly probably take 1-2 years.

I never looked at them because I didnt want a full size truck, but you are 100% correct. It looks like an F150.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
FWIW ... I have had 2 small & 1 large Nissan pickups and they were good trucks ... but Toyotas are just better IMO.

The funny thing about the nissan that even being a 10 year old model it has 4 wheel disc brakes and a height adjustment seat. Not to mention power seats for the automatics. The taco is a brand new redesign with tech from more than 10 years ago. Not trying to start a drum vs disc debate but the nissan having 4 wheel disc and more adjustable seat gives it points in my book even though is a 10 year old design.

Definitely agree with you there. There are some things they didn't add that doesn't make sense for a 2016 vehicle. You get Smart key, led headlights and don't have height adjustable seats?

If there's one thing I don't like about my Frontier it's the shifter. 5th, 6th and R are a long reach, it's vague and rubbery. Fortunately I hear the PRG short throw shifter solves all of the short comings. I've been driving it a year and still haven't bothered to order one so I'm not sure it's really so bad.
