    i'm in the same boat as mike. been doing body work, painting, and fabrication for damn near 30 years but the body shops won't hire me because i don't have a certificate. yet i've seen many young guys with certs that are clueless. most places at least in my area won't pay enough to attract fresh blood

    It's all about a test that don't mean shit. I knew an old tech way back when. Wasn't very book smart and got lost with the new ase cert tests. He couldn't pass them. Yet this guy could diag and fix ANYTHING. Kids come in from a collage and pass all these tests and can't even patch a tire.

    yep the only thing i got certified in was welding because where i was working wanted it and paid me to do it. people say ewe your a certified welder i quickly explain it teaches you the basics but your not really doing it until your standing on your head down in some hole or having to weld around a corner having to use a mirror to watch your weld. i'm self tought and still always learning. idk sorry to rant

    yep and i learned after an er visit to always wear earplugs so slag or splatter can't burn the inside of your ears. that shit hurts and sounds like baccon frying

    great sometimes pt sucks today was pretty rough but it really helps. we need the rain they say we're 3 1/2 inches short on rain. someday i'll post you a pic of the sun setting over the mtns ha ha
