It will be legally required to have the fix done if we keep it. It has to have an emissions test this year when i get new tabs for it. I will be require to have proof of repair. One of the shops I talked with are very confident they can reflash the ECM , but Vw will just strip out the programming if I take it in for service after that.

Keep the VW if you can, I've owned three(89 gli 16v, 87 GTI 8v, 84 vanagon GL hardtop)It was a love hate relationship. They were absolutely great drivers with good Mpg's but they all had reliability issues. I was thinking of buying one of those used TDI engines for my vanagon. Do you know what VW is doing with all the TDI engines? Would love to have one.

If I had to guess I would say they will destroy all the ones they buy back. I too have had many Vw's. Ever since I've had a liscense I have owned one. I don't hold it against them. I'm sure they aren't the only ones cheating.

Nope had one. Granted it was a 97 but it was a colossal price of shit. Blew out every seal in the front of the motor at 50k. Then head gasket at 62k. It never returned from shop after that went straight to dealer for trade in.

B.C is a nice getaway but Canadian drivers (or at least ones in Vancouver) either drive 10mph under the speed limit or 20mph over. Also the busses pull out when ever they feel like and don't look for a gap in traffic, they just go.

It's the same here in town. I drive a F550 for work through down town everyday. Between the buses and the cyclists it's a nightmare. I grew up in Mt. Vernon and used to go to Richmond Skate ranch at least once a month. I actual love B.C. But don't tell @OZ-T. I look for jobs with Bchydro all the time.

My wife was also hesitant with the 4Runner at first. We got it anyway. We sold it a couple years back. All I hear about is how much she misses it and how I'm an ass for selling it.

    Get the 4runner

That's a shame, one of the best engines is no longer available. I think the EPA way over exaggerated the emmissions problems. They never considered how much those engines actually saved the environment by using much less fuel than any gasser. They had it out for VW from the start.

I will have to disagree there. With the current software it's a fast little hatchback. I would say faster, definitely better handling than our 2005 GTI. But to make it comply with the emissions standards it's going to be crap. They should have just fit it with a DEF system to begin with. Fuckers

and your tdi's saved the environment by using less fuel than gassers doesn't wash as they were also polluting at 40 times their stated emissions

We just recently sold our 2010 Jetta TDi Cup Edition. It was a manual and boy was that thing slow but damn good on fuel. Diesels are exempt from emissions here in Ga so we were not going to do the repairs had we kept it.

At first we refused to accept VW's offer of $1,000 ($500 Amex gift card & $500 gift card that could be used for VW Parts or Service only) as we did not want to jeopardize our ability to play part of the lawsuit as we would have technically accepted their offer. This all just started to come to light when we were looking to sell it for a new Miata. The dealers refused to take it in on trade as they knew they were "stop sale" on any VW TDI. One Mazda dealer did offer to take it in for a weak $8k. We just sold it a couple months ago for much more than that. So glad to just get rid of it.

Still want one! I have a Mercedes 300d turbo diesel with 200k. Still runs like a champ and pulls like a locomotive.

When does the "cheap one come out"? One of my coworkers has an S, it's pretty awesome. But out of my price range. By a lot.
