Not right now, but I will. Diesel 2007 and newer diesels are required to do emissions here in Seattle/King county. It will be required by the EPA and the fed.

Well if you never take it into the dealer for anything then it'll never give them the opportunity to perform this mysterious update.

only 9 states do emissions test for diesels light vehicles and passenger cars, and of those 9 states most of them are only certain counties. Washigton is not one of those states

    Yes, back on topic.

Maybe I missed it but what is your budget? That'll help generate some ideas.

I despise the Prius. I got stuck driving one to our Dam in Metaline falls. 7 hours in Prius, I wanted to die.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.

I love Toyotas, but with the said ...

The Honda CRV AWD is fantastic and is like a cat on slick & wet roads. Tons of room and rear seats fold down like a wagon.

Maybe the no. 1 car in US for resale too.

Do you prefer a sedan, wagon or SUV/CUV?

If you're looking for a hybrid (I see many posts mentioning the Tesla) then I'd suggest you look at the Nissan Leaf. It's not the most appealing vehicle but they can be had in your price range. One nice thing about having a hybrid is she'll get up front parking for the charging stations.

If you follow the EPA FAQs about VW Diesels from your link

~Will I be required to have my vehicle repaired once it is recalled ?

"That depends. Some states require proof that emissions recalls have been performed prior to issuing the vehicle registration. Even in states that do not have this requirement, it is important to have emissions recalls performed because without the repairs, your vehicle may be emitting harmful pollutants in excess of the federal emission standards. You are not responsible for repair costs related to an emissions recall."
