Hello guys.. I have just acquired a 2012 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Base model. I used to have a 2013 and it had the nice touchscreen and Bluetooth radio in that model..

I read a few threads about the upgrade, and it mentioned there was some radio plug adapters, but I think that was for accommodating the steering wheel controls.. however, being that this is a regular cab (with no steering wheel controls), that is not needed..

does that mean that the 2013-2014 Touchscreen Bluetooth could potentially be a direct bolt in? I am not very privy to stereo stuff, and I couldn't find anything through the search for base model to base model swaps

any info would be great guys! thanks and happy to be back in the Taco Community!

I have a 2014 radio in my 2005 truck, the only thing I bought that was required for the radio to work was an antenna adapter (metra 40-LX21). I also bought a USB port later on, but was not required for the radio to work.

So I came up with this little drawing, for trying to fit the 2013 unit into the 2012 unit.. there are just a few things I wasn't sure what they went to, and I labeled them with red ? Question marks, anybody have any ideas of what they go to? keep in mind my truck has no steering wheel controls, so if that has anything to do with that, I wouldn't know.. lol

That little grey one with the question mark on the new one (2013 and up) is the USB plug.

I did not plug anything into that. It is either for the steering wheel controls, or Bluetooth.

I kinda figured that. Im fairly certain that #6 is the bluetooth, so that leaves the other one for the steering controls. Can anybody confirm? Hehe

yup.. I was able to find that head unit brand new for a lot less than an original OEM unit, and I would have had to still buy all those adapters.. I figured id use the $125 elsewhere lol

So I want to do this swap and I need to know which adapters I will need to use:
    -Microphone
    -Antenna
-Bluetooth(is BT built in to the 2013 radio, or do I need an adapter?)
    -USB
If anyone can shed light on this I'd appreciate it. I thimk I know what I need for mic and antenna, the others not so much. The 2013 unit is a perfect drop-in to my 2012 base model work truck fit-wise and I'd like to ba able to use the phone while working. Thanks!
