Hi I'm about to negotiate a deal on a 2009 DC 4WD sport short bed and I am trying to find accurate invoice pricing so I can make this a good deal. The sales guy quoted this:
    Invoice: $28,588.10
    MSRP: $30,639.30

My internet sale price for this truck, including all coupons, certificates, specials, and promotions, is $29,588.10 plus 3% tax, $134 for a new tag, $9.10 for state inspection, $499 for documentation.

Any ideas? I also posted this on another site. Any help is appreciated

That's nothing compared to the differences in closing costs and real estate taxes in NJ and NC.

That one would be a deal breaker for me. That basically means that they are selling you a truck and then charging you $499 to do the paperwork.

It looks to me like they are holding about a $500 dollar deal on you plus the $499 doc. fee for a total of $999 profit plus dealer holdback.

www.carsdirect.com The absolute best buying tool I have found. Plug in the vehicle and options you want and take that to the dealer. It usually takes work and standing your ground but it can be had.

Gotta love Oregon's no sales tax!!

That's probably a true invoice, but from working at a dealership beafore, you do still have some more room. Beat them up a little bit for a better deal.

Yea, the "doc fee" in NC is just $300-$500 that goes in the owner's pocket, and I've had salesmen tell me so.

It's such a load...first of all, no one will break down what this money is actually for. I've seen the fee anywhere from $299-$499 (usually more $$$ at the "luxury" dealerships.

A few years ago when I was living in NJ, I ended up getting a couple of $100 coupons as part of a class-action suit against dealerships that failed to itemize the doc fee & made buyers feel like is was a mandated fee. Maybe one day something similar will happen in NC. All I know is no amount of arguing would get the salesman or the manager to drop that doc fee when I bought my '08.

BTW, if you are a member of USAA, they have a pretty good "car pricing" service . I can't remember which dealership in the Raleigh area they work with (might be Fred Andreson). But, I has able to use that price at a different dealer where I bought my truck & got a better deal on my trade, plus they honored the factory incentives.

Unfortunately only the new car sales tax is 3%. Regular sales tax in North Carolina is 7%. Then 7% state income tax ...., which I didn't have to pay in Florida!! Oh well I know some of you have it worse.

I've got the local dealer here willing to give me a truck and anyone one else I bring in at invoice since I brought them a lot of business. There's about 2k built in for profit on the higher end tacos. Ya'll need to come down to SC, all taxes tags and government fees max out at $320.

    Hi,

I'm wondering if you would be willing to help/give advice on the actual cost of this vehicle. I would like to get a good deal while respecting the dealership's need to make some money. I'm looking at a 2009 Silver Streak Mica truck, 4WD, Long Bed, V6 Towing Package, SR5 w/JBL stereo system, 16" Alloy wheels. Last 6 digits of Vin# are 014611 (that's all the print out they gave me says). Any chance of getting the real invoice? I want to offer them $26,000 for the truck plus taxes, etc. Is that fair? I really do not know how much room there is in the pricing of these new trucks.

This was their quote (SC dealership):

    Invoice: $28,931
    Tax and Tag: $2065.17
    Military rebate: $500

    Drive out: $29,998

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

You still get the toyota factory rebate right?
