I totaled my 2003 V6 4wd last month. Found and bought a replacement. Trans threw a code today. I got out to check the trans fluid and realized that it's dipstick is shorter than the one on my other truck by a lot. I'm wondering if it's aftermarket or OE from a split production in 2003.
I just want to be sure the level it's reporting is actually accurate. Wrong level could cause the code.

Maita has to order it and can't be here for 3 days. No yard in Rancho has one. I don't want to drive around with the wrong amount of fluid.

So, I'm wondering if someone in Sacto might also have a 2003 V6 4wd with Auto Trans who would be cool with me stopping by (or meeting somewhere) tomorrow to compare the two and make sure the level markings are in the right place. Anyone?

Let me put it another way. I'm looking for a 13 year old tranny. I'd like to come by and compare our dipsticks, see whose is longer and whose is shorter and find out how much fluid each has. My wife wants to watch. Ha Ha.

    I'm free tomorrow. Thanks.

I'm not in Sac, but if a picture and a length will do, I could post that up.

I guess what I'm saying is, I have a 13 year old tranny. I like posting stick-pics, especially when I know someone is watching. I'll put the stick in my hand, and let my wife take the pictures...

    Ha Ha.

That'd be cool of you. Can you measure length from the bottom of the red (orange) handle to the top and bottom of the hot range and top and bottom of the cold range.

Then I can cross-reference and see if its a match. I'm hoping mine is OE and they just removed the extra 6 inches from the bottom that you have to feed through the bend in the tube. The one in this truck is much shorter and terminates before the bend.

    Thanks.

I took some pics of what I'm packin'

    Here's 2 of the handle:

    Handle 1.jpg Handle 2.jpg

    Total length is about 26":

I'm measuring from the bottom of the handle:

The Hot markings are between 20.5" and 21.25" from the bottom of the handle:

The Cold Marks are roughly 22.75" and 22 15/16". The picture is a little off since it shifted.

Does yours measure up the same? It might be longer. The one on my last 2003 definitely was. But as long as the fill lines are the same distance from the handle I should be good.

    Thanks.

If anyone else is around their truck right now and can measure theirs, that would be tits! If I have to, I'm trying to get to the stealership before they close today.

Mom's doctor appointment turned into a night in the hospital. Do you still need the measurements

Hey, yeah, when you got a second. Thanks. I posted elsewhere on the forum but no one bothered with it.

Hope it's not super serious with your mom.

I got the same measurements you got. I could not get the photos to upload from my phone but we appear to have the same dipstick

Thanks for checking. It's a big help. That's good and bad news. Good news, my level can be read properly. Bad news, gotta figure out why trans threw code. Start with an at home flush, I guess. Thanks again.
