So im taking my truck in for its second toyotacare service (10k mi). The first time it was all stock, but now when i bring it in for its second service, they will see it now has 6 inches of lift...anybody have experiences with dealers giving them a hard time because its not stock?

    Shouldn't be.

10k service has nothing to do with your suspension.

It's going to depend on your dealer, the one I go to is super chill and never gives me a hard time about anything...although my truck doesn't have anything major done to it. I've had trucks in the past that were modified fairly heavy though, and still the dealer never gave me any problems.

Why could they possibly give you a hard time about, unless they have midgets working there who wont be able to change the oil due to them being midgets then I don't see a problem?!?

Ditto. Rotate tires is the only thing that would be even vaguely associated. Honestly nothing in the maintenance manual should ever have anything to do with your lift. Where you will run into problems is if you have something start wearing like a carrier bearing, balljoints, transmission issues - then they could start pointing to your aftermarket suspension possibly.

dont even bother.... save yourself the time and pain of taking it to the dealer and simply do the oil change and tire rotation yourself.

And while you are under there grease your u joints... cus the dealer wont do that for you.

Nope. When I had my 10k done, the service manager complimented my truck saying it was tastefully done

Do expect them to put a note in your file about it though. That way if you ever come back for warranty work related to any problems that can be caused by a lift they can say, sorry no dice you had a lift on it, even if you remove it for taking it in. Other than that they will be cool about it, they see it all the time on Tacomas.

No worries. A lift doesn't 'automatically void your entire warranty', as is a common misconception. Federal law is VERY much on your side when it comes to a vehicle warranty. If your engine were to blow out in 1k miles (knock on wood), for the dealer to deny your claim based on a lift, they would have to prove in federal court that the lift caused the motor to blow. Everything is legal cause and effect - without that, the dealer cannot flat-out 'void a warranty' based on a modification you have done to the vehicle.

    Reading: http://www.mlmlaw.com/library/guides/ftc/warranties/undermag.htm

@JeffreyB makes a good point. They will likely put a note in your fille, and if you come back in with a suspension-related warranty issue later, they may use the lift against you. See above about warranties - if they can prove that a lift caused excessive wear and tear to another item, they may have grounds to deny a warranty item.

Can't grease them - Prerunners don't have the grease fitting equipped U-joints. They're the same size and spec as the ones in the 4x4's, just not greaseable.

i forgot to reply back, but the dealer did not rotate my tires because my truck was high and they did not have the type of lift needed to raise my truck. that sucks...DIY i guess

Dealers and their service writers are not created equal. Same goes for a lot of other things in this world. You may have no issues during your 10K visit; then run into all kinds of crap during the subsequent visits if a different service writer is involved or the one used during your 10K visit is in a different mood that day. It's impossible to know what they're going to say until you take it in.

Remember - you DO NOT have to take your Toyota to the dealer you purchased it from for either warranty work or Toyota Care.

Yep. Even when it comes to warranty issues that are completely unrelated to suspension, they will try and pin it on that. Just so you know.

Keep in mind this is not a criminal trial, Toyota doesn't need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. A lift and larger tires can reasonably put greater wear and tear on suspension and driveline parts (wheel bearings, front diff bearings, CV joints, driveshaft carrier bearing...), and there are plenty of "experienced industry professionals" at the dealer and at Toyota who can attest to it.

I like how people get overly concerned about a $20 oil change after spending $30k on a truck and $5K+ lifting it.

There are no Toyota dealers in my area that charge as little as $20 for an oil and filter change, but your point is well taken.
