Girl, that engine is done, I sugest when you get truck back, they will give it to you all nicely waxed and washed. Drive that shit straight to Ford dealer and trade for F150, before dealer updates service records and car fax starts showing you have half assed engine.
Lets face it, that truck broke down while pulling hore trailer up the hill, unless your plan is to not tow anymore, I think you are done...
Save what you have left, trade before records are updated and every dealer gives you low ball offer on it.

Why? She still has a long warranty period left. I would put the engine through a gauntlet test when they gave it back to me and make damn sure everything was good, but I wouldn't go so far as to run to the ford dealership and lose 6 grand on trading it in. When you get it back, drive it like you stole it for a bit, tow all your horses up down and all over the place, etc.

She has a 100k warranty, if the engine truly is shot there will be another massive failure long before that.

I would do some talking with them and ask about extending the warranty a little further for free, never hurts to ask. But if they didn't, I still wouldn't run and toss 6 g's out the window.

Hopefully when you are older, you will realize some stuff is just not worth getting your blood pressure up over. They are literally out a few hours driving there/back and on the phone. The rest is being taken care of. I gave up fighting long ago and life is much easier and stress-free. Stress is what steals your life away little by little. Medical fact.

... ^^^ ... Very true ... excellent advice ... stress will increase your cortisol & "kill you dead".

I am constantly fighting the "stress devil" with relaxation, meditation & exercise.

Really, so your advice is for her to beat on the truck until she breaks something so she gets even bigger loss, wow that is some advice.

@perfectsoldier23 your truck is done, lose some now or lose more later. Do what you want but would trade that crap before records get updated.

If the engine is done they will replace it, then she will have a new engine. Why trade it in with a new engine?

....no, my advice is to test it. Don't get it back and baby it, just run the envelope and make sure it doesn't fail.

I am pretty sure she got new engine when she bought new truck, also Toyota seems to be replacing things with remanufactured parts (case and point all transmission replacement threads ) So I would not bet on new engine yet, and definitely would not trust dealership and Toyota to not go cheap ass. Regardless, once this vehicle is flagged she is always going to be in disadvantage.

One of the most important and hardest things in life is to learn how to cut your losses. She can keep it and hope that "new" engine is better, and was installed correctly and it does not crap out in the middle of nowhere on her.
Or She can trade for a truck that was build for towing and did not had its engine pulled from some shack.

Things happen that cause engine failure that are beyond anyone's control. It happens. I have replaced a few powerheads on boat motors that failed due to faulty internal parts. Some of the replacements I used were brand new off the line, some were reman. Of those I have replaced none have had any trouble since then.
I wouldn't go trade in because it needed a new engine with so few miles on it, the only thing I would be upset with is being without the truck for almost a month, but there are ways to get over that.

Resale takes a hit when that engine repair/replacement shows up on the Carfax report. She's already on the losing end if she tries to sell it in the future.

It depends on what is reported, some just say blanket statements like "service work performed" some lay out what was done, could go either way.

NP, if your buying a toyota, you can go to the mytoyota.com or owner site, add the vin number to your vehicles and it pulls up the details for you on all the services done at the stealership. When I was looking for a nice used 1st gen tundra I was doing this.

    Exactly....
With so many vehicles on used market, because majority of people are looking for new vehicle or near new, a vehicle that has transmission or engine replaced is a non starter. There are tons of cars to chose from, mismatched parts cars, cars with accidents only sell when they discounted, every dealer knows that, every dealer will offer scraps for your vehicle when search shows replacement.
And its illegal to not disclose mismatched VIN number. (atlas in my state)

I don't agree with blue t that the Tacoma is a piece of crap like he likes to always say when he trolls forums but the truck is not a vehicle for towing in excess. Hopefully Toyota makes things right for you op

Interesting! This is day 13 in the shop. And the service writer recommended I take a rental because it can be up to two more weeks. So if that happens, my truck would be in the shop for 30 days, if not more. I will definitely keep an eye on this
