Yeah mine will start a 6th doing 70mph and then down shift 2x to 4th and rev to 3500ish rpm then shift to 6th on the downgrade. Sometimes it has stayed in 5th... :notsure:

Fluid check this weekend, I hate the dealer. "Oh it's fine" "

    good question!
nothing, but since a new frame and springs were put on the '07,it would be worth more $.
and I would upgrade with the additional $.

Well, worth more than it was, but not worth more than a normal good condition '07........ but certainly more worth keeping!

Not all things newer, bigger, more gee-whizz and more expensive are actually upgrades. ;)

Whatever you decide, hope it plays out well for you!

I'm beating a dead horse here by saying the transmission shifting excessively is annoying. I get that it is programmed to shift for the best fuel economy but this may have been better suited for the previous 4.0L engine where it offered better torque at lower rpms. This 3.5L feels gutless below 3-3500 rpms. Did I buy a Honda Civic or a truck?

How do '16 owners like the 3.5L?

A lot of people say it is underpowered this, granny this, but I have a manual transmission and if you can get the revs to 3500-4000 RPM that thing is far from having "no power or pull"

I can sum it up as this:

It has the Same DNA as the older 1GR 4.0 motor, but a bit more sophisticated and grown up. Makes different noises.

Torque and power band has been moved up, so if you're used to that lovely torque curve on the old 1GR at 2-3K rpm, you get the same, but at 4K + RPM. Many don't like this change. But unless you owned the old motor, you wouldn't think twice.

The new motor at near redline has incredible HP, something the old motor was lacking.

Those RPMs are kind of high.
Won't use of that power cause even worse MPGs? Than the 4.0.

So there's been one bitch about the Entune system, so I'll add another one. This is my only bitch about my 16 so far. I let the trial period end for Sirius/XM as I refuse to pay for radio. When it did that all the HD radio channels went away along with the graphics for the songs that are playing. That sucks ass. And you still get the digital signal telling you the artist and song if the station broadcasts it, but it's so small you can barely make it out and it's up in the corner of the radio antennae graphic you get in place of the album artwork. What is up with this bull shit. I had an HD tuner in my previous truck and was able to get HD radio for free with no Sirius/XM. There's no reason that Entune has to shut this stuff off if you let the subscription lapse or cancel it. Just another example of them trying to highly encourage you to keep paying on a monthly basis. These features still work if you're using Pandora, etc... In the end, this is no big deal at all, just aggravating as hell.

Hey Curt... Mine did that also... dealer refused to do a physical tranny fluid check... I checked it... 3/4 liter low.

That fixed the issue .... tranny now runs like it should....!!. FYI

Great..!! Isn't that what we should expect from a new truck... Yeah..!!

I wish they were ALL perfect, but that seems to be a "pipe dream"...

    I love my truck...and you can't have it...yeah Toyota messed a few things...WTF.

I can not believe the dealer would not check the trans fluid knowing? there is a issue.
I wonder if there is any communication from corporate yet?
And how did you check it yourself?

I followed the great instructions from good Taco owners on this site.... I did it on my 2006 (it was low too).... Here is a link to that great write-up.

So strange. I'm not sure how it could be considered efficient to stay in 4th at high RPMs after going back to level ground at those speeds.

Took mine in for the 5k check. Asked them to check the trans level and was ready for a battle. As it was it was a last minute call this afternoon just to check and see when I could bring it in. He said how about now? So off I went. Long story short, they couldn't check it because of temps, but he said bring it when I can drop it off and leave it for a couple of hours or so and they'd be glad to check it out. So that's good at least and I'm not getting the response that some are getting.
