255/85/16 vs 275/70/17

    Hey guys, so I have decided on what wheels and tires I will be getting, but I can't decide between the two tire/wheel size combos. I'm looking at either 255/85/16 or 275/70/17. I really would like to have 17's so that I can justify buying new wheels, but because I will only be lifting 2 inches I don't want to try 285's. I would go 255/80/17 but the wheels that I want are 8.5 inches wide.

    Both, but it will mainly see a lot of highway and interstate over the next 5 years, but I will be close to moab and other trails.

    Then 275/70 IMO. 85 and skinnier would both be better for off road, the ulterior on pavement.

    Oh I thought you were being sarcastic, but then I searched them real quick. Would I be able to fit 34's with just a 2 inch lift? I'm probably gonna go with the 275/70/17 just because I want 17's.

    Depending on what tire you want I would consider 265/70/17 and 255/75/17 too

    I love my 255/85/16 on and off road. I haven't trimmed anything and fuel economy hasn't really taken a hit. If you want 17, go 255/80/17 - I assume that's an option.

    Yeah, and I can get those pretty cheap in the Cooper st maxx, but the problem is that people say you shouldn't go over a 8 inch wide wheel with 255 width and the wheels I want in 17's are 8.5. The 16 inch version is 8 inches wide though

    moar rubber gets my vote. I like them on my stock wheels. Push them out much and you'll be trimming your fenders.

    My old man has the ST Maxx in 285... on his Ram. They're bad ass.
