Well, I just traded in my 2016 Tacoma. Here's why...

Dude. You traded a midsize in for a full size. Of course you got more truck. Bigger backseat? That's not the Tacomas purpose.

Sounds like you would have been much happier in a Tundra from the beginning. Did you ever give it a look? My dad's tundra gets up and GOES when you hit the accelerator. But that is to be expected. It's a much more powerful truck.

Good luck man, glad you found one you like & didn't get the shaft on you Taco trade in.

I've not owned a third gen yet but may someday. I've never had any issue with any Toyota product (have probably owned 10 TM trucks) but, I do believe you did.

I've also owned several Ford trucks. And I'll say, the Super Duty with the PowerStroke is my all time favorite truck. But the amount of routine (for diesel) & non routine maintenance (gas & diesel) I had to do on the two most recent ones once I put some miles on them was out. It made me not trust them.

I feel like most of your gripes regarding fitment of you and other people in the truck would be highly visible during the test drive... that's on you for buying it anyway if that is a problem for you.

Even when I was a child, it just was.

Whoever owned the vehicle drove & guest (outside immediate family) always rode in front. There was no "making" anyone sit in back. It was like holding a door open for someone, saying please & thank you, getting out of a chair and letting a lady sit & calling those older "sir" or "mam". It was/is just the polite thing to do.

I traded my F150 for the Tacoma. I knew BEFORE I bought the Taco that it would be a difficult transition. I test drive the Taco four different times. Asked my friend about his, asked my BIL about his 2nd gen, read lots of information on the forum. During the test drives I sat in back on the driver and passenger side. I'm 5'11" and 340lbs. It's doable, though my knees were in the back of the drivers seat, and I had a small amount of leg room on the passenger side where my wife sat. We discussed the pros and cons, the kids growing up, etc.

It sounds to me like you didn't do enough homework going in. Don't get me wrong, it was a tough transition from the room in the F150, but I knew it would be in advance.

It also sounds like you're a bit biased towards Ford, and that's OK too. If the Taco wasn't for you, then that's OK too. I wish you luck with your new truck.

I'm with the OP on the back seat issue. I came from a 1st gen SportTrac which is nearly identical in overall size. But the ST would sit 4 men no problem. The new Taco has my 4yr olds feet in my back nonstop. Never going to fit 4 adults comfortably. Let the flaming and snarky comments begin. But if you call yourself a car manufacturer and you build a 4 door vehicle, it should fit 4 grown people. Period.
I'm glad to hear the trade in value was so high for ya. Enjoy that Ecoboost.

No. There are lots of compact 4-door cars that do not fit 4 grown people.
Tacoma (and other mid-size trucks) is a truck that is already trying to accommodate people who want a truck for their image, but won't be honest with themselves that they really need a car. It can only do so much without losing even more bed space etc.

OP, I commend you for acknowledging that you didn't like the truck, then doing something about it. Instead of sitting around and constantly bitching about it like many others here.

Good luck to you and your Ford.

OP went from a V6 3.5L Taco to a full size F150 with a 2.7L ecoboost and he was complaining about being down on power in the Taco?? Hmmmm I'm going to wonder how that works out for him?? Twin turbo version by chance. Still that stop start engine this with the Ford would absolutely drive me crazy.

The reason behind the Toyota truck is the reliability and how well it holds it's value. My last two tacoma's I traded in with the same dealership sold within 2 weeks. That's why it is hard to find a used Tacoma.

Not sure why the op is getting so much hate here. This is the first post by someone who traded their 3rd gen that said that the truck just isn't for them. I can totally respect that opinion. I hope that I do not have the buzzing on my truck but I'm sure that Toyota will resolve the issue of it is present. I have had a lot of vehicles and have always come back to having a Tacoma. It's right for me but I understand it's not right for everyone. Hope your ford works out well for you. If not there's always a tundra.

So like I said. Let the flaming begin. Right on cue there 3dB.
Why is it nobody can say anything even mildly negative around here without the Tacoma Apostles jumping in?
"How dare thee blaspheme the holiest of holy, almighty, alpha-omega, traveler of worlds space and the heavens, harbinger of masculinity, defender of virginity, savior of vehicular transport, TACOMA! All hail Tacoma! All hail Tacoma!!"

Come off it guys. I get it. Most of us are enthusiasts. Most of us love our trucks. But tone it down a notch or three. It's a truck. It has shortcomings. I even gave a comparable example of a truck with realistic and sufficient cab space. I'm right on this one. Even the wife's GTI (a compact car) has more cabin space.
This guy tried it, didn't like it, and is moving to something that suits him better. AND he was respectful about it. He's not breaking up with you. He's not leaving you for your more handsome cousin. It's just a truck.

I am liking that tundra! I was going to get that instead of my 3rd gen taco when my 2002 landcuiser(lx470) hydroplaned and was totaled on the interstate. However, it was gonna set me back a whole lot more and it has the same 5.7 as my 2013 landcruiser(lx570). I figured I could do better than 13 mpg city(even though my 2013 lx gets 21 on highway). I am happy with my 3rd gen.. It's not perfect but it does what I need it to do for the price that I paid. I have accepted it will never ride like my lx!

OP best of wishes! I was also considering a Ford eco boost!

To each their own, I went from a 2014 Lexus IS 250, to the 2016 Tacoma 4x4 and haven't looked back since. I did my homework and both being TOYOTA's my trade in was awesome, I made money on the deal. The point of the story is Toyota's keep their value unlike any other vehicle, When you buy a car you MUST keep resale value in mind. I guarantee FORD's resale value is much much less for = miles and age. All that matters at the end of the day is that your happy with the purchase.

Maybe you should've bought a mini van so your passengers can be comfortable when you go for a ride.

Wow dude. You totally overreacted. Why don't you read my post again. All I did was point out that all 4-door vehicles shouldn't necessarily fit 4 adults comfortably, that there are plenty of 4 door compacts that are not roomy etc. I never referenced the OP at all, nor do I have issue with his reasons for moving to an F-150. It was only in reference to your post about all 4 doors should fit 4 adults, period. I did assume you meant the Tacoma does not. I also pointed out that Toyota has already made concessions in this area for people who really need the room of a sedan or FS pickup.

Please point out one disrespectful thing in my quote.

If you consider that ^^ "flaming", you should reconsider the internet.

Mine doesn't buzz (without my Yakima roof rack on it!) and through 4700 miles I'm getting about 19.7 mpg. I will admit it ain't no drag racer though. It needs 3000 rpm's to make it up the slightest of hills.
