I was pulling out a stuck truck the other day. Had it in 4lo 1st gear. Once I got his truck moving I revved it a bit to keep the momentum, when I hit 3500 in 4lo I actually scared myself a bit. I was almost up to the Rev limiter before I could shift.

Go for it. Once you hit 3,500k I notice a considerable difference that puts me in my seat. I typically shift at 3k as I am a frugal on the fuel burn. That said, when I want it to go, it does.

    Thanks Mike,

I didn't love the trans when it was new all the gears were tight and you had to push it into each position. Everything was super tight when it was new. I had 5000k on it before I could squeeze any horsepower out. Mileage was awful for the first 5k then steadily increased. If I didn't drive way too fast I'd get pretty decent mileage. Figure I'll have the same problem with the new one. I have a hour commute each way and I can make it in 47 minutes most days. I love the manual in rush hour as it gives me something to do rather road rage out.

    Thanks everyone for the response.
I have the salesman looking into transferring the truck I want or finding one with same options. He said it would only cost $150 roughly to transfer it. I'll beleave it when I see it. Looks like I'm going with turd gen sorry 3rd gen lol. Now I need to sell or trade in my old baby.

Anyone else here have a hard time not trolling the AT guys?

I was reading someplace about someone griping about the manual shifter setting on the AT. It took every bit of self restraint not to post a picture of my MT shifter.

Or commenting how I have issues with erratic shifting when I am on my 4th cup of coffee.

I know the feeling. The problem with trolling them is that they out number us. Even if we bring up a real benefit of a manual they jump all over our shit. Not worth the time. Unless I'm really bored, then game on....

My 3rd gen had plenty of power right off the lot and got the advertised MPG too. I have 8500 miles now and I'm getting maybe 1 extra MPG highway compared to brand new. Rush hour traffic may be a different story...

    Hello from an old-timer.

Good to hear from proud MT owners. I'm getting a 2016 DCSB OR 4x4 MT in 4 weeks, after selling my 07 in 2012.

It took me a few weeks to make a decision. I was so disappointed after driving an AT, that I thought I'd go with a T4R instead since it has the old 4.0 + 5speed AT that I'm used to. But I miss having a truck... Without having any available MTs to test drive, the next best thing was to read a few threads here on the pros and cons of owning an MT. Hopefully I don't get the sticky tranny issue on the 2016, but if I do, I'll just have to work with Toyota to get it fixed.

I can't wait to start summer projects and go hunting with the new truck.

I have had the truck for two days. 26 years on three pedals, but every single one is different. The 2016 Taco is a gem, slicker than most my last 7 manuals (my 1985 Accord is still the slickest manual I have ever driven). I am a shift by sound guy, rarely look at the tach after I get to know the tranny, so it has taken me a couple of days to get it down, the 3rd gen sounds to me like it is 800 rpm higher than it really is. First gear is tall, but sounds even taller. Get out of first as quick as I can, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are heaven, I can do most of my town driving in either 3rd or 4th. I have a shitload of construction on the highway here right now, have not needed more than 5th. Curious to see on a long drive how 6th responds. Still, early results are that this stick is very good. No, I take that back. Very, very good.

I have resisted commenting on the trouble a few auto 2016 owners are having, I test drove a 2014, 2015, and 2016 auto before putting my money on a manual (not by choice, there were simply no manuals to test drive here), and hated the sluggish response of each slush box, I don't get the trolling of 2nd gen drivers on 3rd gen slushboxes because I disliked all of them, but now I can say definitively that the manual is where it is at. Where it has always been really.

    I dig this truck.

I shift by sound too.. I just have been paying attention to shift points recently because of the recent discussions on TW. Glad to have you here!

    3rd Gen MT drivers:

Does the engine stall if you heel-toe to rev match the engine while braking and shifting? Meaning, depress brake pedal->depress clutch->blip throttle pedal with side of foot while shifting into lower gear->release clutch & brake->accelerate out of turn. I am hoping the note below is AT only.

This was in the tips thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tips-and-tricks-on-the-2016-tacoma.411911/#post-11639094

No stalling. That tip is for automatics.

    My response: "Yay! Phew."

My response: "FUCK. Now I won't order one"

    ....who is correct?

It doesn't make sense to me that they would program such a thing for the MT, since rev-matching is a normal thing to do. But, I ask because I never know what lawyer won what argument against what engineer.

Did you try it clutch in (out of gear), or clutch out (in gear)?

Nothing happens if the clutch is in. With the clutch out, and brake and gas both applied, You get a warning message and the throttle retards. The engine doesn't stall, unless you continue to full stopish
