You're correct, it would not be a criminal trial. It would be a federal civil trial, which would still require Toyota to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that your modification caused the failure that you're making a warranty claim over.

Of course, the case would be settled way before Toyota would let it go to federal court; however, if it got there, the burden of proof is on Toyota and would be for a judge and jury to decide... not a Toyota tech.

Civil trial doesn't require proving beyond a reasonable doubt, just a balance of probabilities. i.e. two techs as expert witness stating a lift increases wear on CV joints will tip the judge or jury in Toyota's favor.

    1) You brought up worn CV joints. No one else.

    2) All I said was that Toyota has to prove that your mod caused the failure of a claimed warranty failure. In your made up easy case, you're absolutely right - worn CV joints could be attributed to a 6" lift and there would be no warranty claim. Denying a blown starter motor claim because there is a lift would be a different story. See, I can make up my own extreme cases, too.

    3) I would LOVE to take part in a trial against Toyota where they're moronic enough to call their own techs as witnesses.

Are you just looking for an argument? We're agreeing on everything.

^My point is Toyota doesn't need to prove your mods caused the failure, just expert testimony from "experienced professional technicians" will be enough.

Of course in reality with trial attorney fees on the order of $2000 a day, no one is going to take Toyota to court over a CV joint or starter and come out ahead.

My '15 Prerunner holds 5.5 qts - shop is going to sell me 6 qts. Then there's the oil filter.

I wonder what quality of oil/filter I'm going to get for $20?

I'm not supporting the dealer, just saying there's no way in hell you are going to get a shop to give you 6 qts. of good oil and a decent filter for $20.

It comes to just over $20, but the multipack of OEM filters I bought on ebay and the Mobile 1 rebate is a pretty good deal. You can get 5 or 10 filters, they come with new washers and are a lot cheaper than the dealer. Mobile 1 offers rebates from time to time. Stock up and you're set.

I was referring to a $20 oil/filter change in a shop. Even a DIY change for a PreRunner V6 is going to be more than $20.

My last one using quality conventional oil - dealer filter and drain plug gasket+ local tax was $31.24

Yeah - I can buy filters online. I've seen the 10 pack deal on ebay. Saves me a $1 a filter. Doing that - I'm still at $30 for a DIY conventional oil change.

A $20 oil/filter change in a "shop" will consist of rot-gut oil and a POS filter.

As cheap as possible on both and they still lose money on it. They run those deals so they can talk people into more expensive services while they are there.

A friend of mine is a Toyota Tech, he just takes my truck to work with him that day. I'll get my first 5 oil changes done at the dealer.

Been getting my F250 oil changed by a shop every 5K for $17-20 for years. Depends if I have a coupon or not.

How much oil you use has nothing to do with the price at most shops. They charge a standard price for a change.

Just because you have an extra special deal with a shop doesn't mean everybody does.

Not around here. Every oil change shop charges with respect to how many quarts are used.

My little 4 cylinder takes 6.1 Quarts Synthetic. Get that for 20 dollars? Nope. Can't even buy the oil for that even on sale.

Maybe where you live...wherever that is.

In my area there are no $17-$20 oil changes for a Corolla, let alone an F250.

Don't move. You'll be disappointed in the new price.

It's not an extra special deal. Firestone usually only charges $20 an oil change lol

    Like the below:

    Up to 5 quarts.
    +$2.99 for oil filter recycling.
Shop Supply Charges of up to 6% of Labor Charge.

For full synthetic it is $54.99 and that only covers Up to 5 quarts of oil so I would have to buy another quart. + Oil Filter Recycling fee and shop supplies....

I wouldn't let Firestone touch my lawn mower.
