I am getting ready to put meat on the grill and went to my knife drawer to get one, when I saw this little Victorinox and realized that it is almost 40 years old. This was my first knife that my dad gave me for Christmas when I was 6 years old. I am now 45. I had it in my pocket every day through high school (yeah for the old days where we could carry knives to school). Amazing that I never lost it.

That's really cool. Your post reminded me of this.....my pops scored a case or these at a yard sale (12 I think) all new in their boxes back around '85. I was 13 yo. I took it to school every day and eventually it ended up on my key ring for the past 26 years.

While were here, I just picked this up for next bow season.

Wish I had that too. After I bought my Sage 2 for $150 I had some buyers remorse. Can't bring myself to pay for the 940 yet.

image.jpg My everyday pocket knife. Just got it back from Kershaw. They put on a new blade(which I didn't even ask for), pocket clip and handle. Cost me $5 to ship to them. That's what I call customer service.

Hey guys, do the all black PM2 usually scuff up so easily? I know, it's a knife, it'll show wear. But I haven't even cut anything with it yet. I used to have an all black Kershaw shallot that scratched up within the first few cuts but that's a $45 knife.

Any coating will scratch, early and often. My 3 rules of knife buying: no blade coatings, no serrations and no recurves. Last knife with a coating I bought was a Becker BK16 and it took some effort to get the coating off. Still took the time to do it.

I generally follow those too. I don't buy serrated knives. Just figured the blade would take more than just slipping into my pocket before scratching. My plain edge Endura has been through a lot and the blade still looks great. Even though I abuse it by using it as a bottle opener.

No super expensive knives, but functional...
    • Imperial M-7S (found it in my dad's military stash and use it camping)
    • Mora Companion (cheap knife to keep in the truck)
    • SOG Seal Pup (camping)
    • Kershaw Funxion
    • Spyderco Ladybug (keychain)
