Hello I have a quick question. when i put my truck in 4hi on the fly it engages within 2 seconds and works great! When I stop and try and get it to engage 4hi it just blinks and won't engage am I doing something wrong it's just wierd that it works on the fly but not when I'm stopped. Help would be greatlyappreciated it's a 2008 trd sport

how often do you use it? Usually if its new/not used often, thats where it has problems engaging while stopped. But even best system not always engages while stopped. its a nature of Toyota system.
Try lubricating system monthly. Engage and disengage couple times while slowly driving straight. It should get forks lubricated and should be better at engaging stopped.

the vehicle needs to move a little to get the gears to engage for the 4x4 system.

I'm just worried if I get stuck in 2wd I can't get the truck in 4 in sand or mud while stopped.

Put it in reverse then back to drive. This typically work 90% of the time for me when I have that issue .
Other times I have to get the truck to move just a small bit.

Mine doesn't always engage when stopped either. I've never had an issue engaging by just shifting to neutral and back to drive. The torque on the drivetrain is just enough to line everything up and have it engage.

Same was true for my previous TRD Off Road and a friends SR5.

Why would you put yourself in a situation where you would get stuck in 2wd when you know it should be in 4wd. This is where common sense prevails.

So what happens if your stuck and spinning your rear tires. What happens if you put it in 4wd and turn the tires a bit. Your t-case should engage

Hmm sounds like this thread is a waste of time

Your right but I like to have fun. I only use 4 when I need it if it's something I know I won't make in 2.

Your not supposed to spin the tires at all when you shifting to and from 4wd. I keep my foot off the gas and brake when shifting at all times

Don't worry about this happening. It will engage once you give it a little gas and try to move the vehicle, even if the vehicle doesn't actually move. It's normal that things need to be spinning a bit to go into 4WD.

It IS a little weird it'd engage seamlessly while moving (which is a good thing) Maybe yours just needs a little static rotation .. You aren't engaging this on dry pavement correct ??
