A mix of both and that was stock. Got way worse with tires and armor but I knew that would happen.

I think the front in the 4wd 2.7 manual is geared to 4.10, the gearing in the v6 is different, maybe different in the autos too. I can't seem to figure it out either. I know there are a lot of variables but the numbers reported in this forum have been so all over the board. Maybe some engines were just more efficient than others, who knows?

Just priced out the F150 I would want. A cool $53k, and that's not even loaded - just the XLT with the largest cab, 5.0 and 4x4. I could drive an F150, but not a base one.

Here's a mini-rant: Ford has gone option crazy. There is a $7k options package. A $5k wheels package. And I could buy the truck I would want now for $53k, or wait until this year's trucks have been on the lot for 6 months and find one sort of like it and pay 20% less during "model clearance" or "truck month" or whatever. I never understood that approach. Making margin on the blend makes sense for seasonal products - softlines or whatever, but it does your Customers a disservice by softening the value of your durable good product. Knowing the guy in the next lane with the same truck might have paid $12k less would get on my nerves.

the name of the game is unsprung weight, the more you keep the 2.7l stock the better the MPGs, once you start putting on larger tires, caps/tonneau covers, body armor the MPGs decrease dramatically

The big three do this because the general population thinks they're getting some kind of deal when in reality they never sell for that. They have to do it to attract the buyer since they're not known for their reliability. They're known for their "amazing" deals. I didn't buy my Ford new, bought it two years old. Probably a $40-$45k truck new, paid $20k with 60k on the clock. Truck was still in perfect shape. One tiny ding in the door, nothing else.

That's the case here in Central Tx. Chevy , Ford and Ram all have 15 models with 8000 to 15000 lot clearance rebates. I bought my Taco the day after it pulled off the 18 wheeler. We have 2 toyota dealers near me and 1 dealer had 2 base models and the one I got mine from had 2 SR5 special editions, 4 TRD Sports and 1 TRD PRO 4x4 and every one was gone in 7 days.

My 14 that I traded in on my 16 sold the next day with $1700 in body damage that was done when some shit head backed into me in a parking lot. He had no insurance, but lost his driving privileges on post for 12 months.

The gearing is the same in the front and rear. The 2.7 is 4.10 as you pointed out and the v6 is 3.73, transmission type doesn't matter for diff gearing.

The big difference with the manual that @Mobtown Offroad had is that it was almost necessary to rev the engine over 3k rpm's to get it moving. In the auto, the torque converter really helps get you moving without revving the engine so much. Also, he drives like a 16 yr old girl on her way to an N'Sync concert. :D

Please read the original post. I stated several other issues the truck had. Everyone seems to be keying on what I said about the size, for some reason???

I had a friend go through 4 ecoboosts (2 trucks and 3 motors in one truck) in less than a year. Those motors were nuking themselves left and right. He does live in Vancouver and working at a mine like 8 hours away, so his ecoboost didnt get an easy life.

I know some guys that have pushing 200k on their Ecoboost engines... Ford makes a great truck, just like Toyota does.

I feel like the OPs review was informative, if other people are looking to buy a new Tacoma his review should shed some light on any concerns people may have. What difference does it make which truck he went with as long as he's happy with the purchase he made that's all that counts. I love tacomas but I do have a few things I wish were different, hopefully the next truck I buy will address those issues.

Still don't get why people hastily buy these trucks. I test drove them at least a half a dozen times and drove mine for over an hour when it came in to make sure I liked it :notsure:

Good luck with the Ford OP

OBVIOUSLY you didn't read my original post in its entirety!?! I'm the only one hearing the buzz??? Dude, you just fall off the truck or something??? There are literally HUNDREDS of cases of this issue. There are HUNDREDS of posts about the gas mileage being way over stated, and HUNDREDS of issues with the power delivery with the auto trannys!!! Corporate acknowledged the buzz and said for now they are considering it a normal trait of the truck! I didn't put down the Tacoma I just stated that, in my opinion, with a little tweaking they could make a good truck a terrific truck! Love when people get butt hurt cause they don't read the entire post!

You've got to admit, when you test drive any new car you don't fully get the normal day to day experience of using the vehicle, there is also the novelty of a new vehicle which needs to wear off before you even begin to feel how the car really is. A test drive is sort of a misconceived event, you get the drive the car around but it in no way represents how your going to be using the car every day. All I know is I won't be driving around everyday with some stranger, a salesman, in my car everyday.
