Everyone who did not have the option to purchase the tool will get one mailed out to them on Monday free of charge.

Thank you for being an early adopter.

36 dollars is way over the top for one device. They need to give you two, one for each side.

Haha yes, please go now and attempt to remove your tail gate starting with the left side.

Why? The driver's side comes locked from the factory. There's no slot over there.

Don't think $36 will financially hurt anyone here, considering the $$ everyone spends on their trucks with accessories.

It comes down to risk aversion.

A stolen tailgate can cost upwards of $2K for replacement, considering the parts required, camera & harness replacement, labor, and paint (that will hopefully match the rest of the truck). And don't forget the dealer and your time involved in replacement. How long will you be without your truck, and how far is that dealer?

If covered under insurance, would your rates increase? What is your deductible (probably more than the cost of this product)? Why take a chance?

Some here think a $1 hose clamp (and the similar $20 McGard) will protect them, but that didn't work out so well for this member.

I'd rather spend a little now, and reduce my risk, rather than absorb a greater cost later, and my time involved.

I don't manufacture parts, but it appears this small firm does incur costs that has to be passed down to the purchaser. Time and costs involved in designing, materials, manufacturing, hardware, patents, shipping, support, web sites, infrastructure, etc, adds to the cost to the consumer. The company is expected to make a profit.

Hopefully, given time, the company can increase their sales and spread out their costs, eventually dropping the price to the consumer. But with most new products, they are initially expensive, and become less expensive as time and sales go on.

    Roll the dice!

I dont mind spending for something that i think is going to work, but here's my problem. Being close to $40, you better hope it has a good chance of working. However, members here have had their tailgates stolen with the the hose clamp mod. This tells you the thief one day prob noticed that he had a clamp on, and came back the next with a screwdriver or socket. Same could be said for having to go get a security torx bit like is needed for this device. Tailgates arent a spur of the moment theft in most cases so waiting a day isnt a big deal. In this case the best bet in the mean time would be a hose clamp with the hex's rounded off and screwdriver slot filled in for less than $5. I have seen some tailgate locks with a special socket, much like wheel locks. If this had that feature, i would probably be adding one to my cart.

yup, point being it needs to be a fastener/bit that i cant go pick up at the nearest advance or autozone. Without it the deterrent is just a sitting duck. I suppose you could try to modify one yourself to key it somehow.

im not disagreeing with you, nor anything you have said.. I just hate paying shipping.. especially when I scrolled up and seen that there was free shipping at one point..

Also, asking for a group buy isn't taboo..

Yeah, the clamp by itself without any lock on the tailgate is just useless. All he did was slow them down 15 seconds. Same for this $36 clamp without any other theft deterrant. Unless you have the unique pattern lock bolt like above you're still pissing in the wind without locking handle, locking tonneau, locking shell, gatekeeper and/or washer mod to go with it.

those pop and locks are garbage
unless you have some way to cover the tailgate protector like a cap or tonneau

all you have to do is pull up the plastic tailgate protector (it pops right off)
and stick a hook in the holes and grab the arm and yank and your tailgate pops open

tested this when I replace my tailgate protective cover with a new one. pretty easy to open
the tailgate with a (I used a metal snake)

    anyway....thieves suck ass.

There are other options. See Security Fasteners.

We have looked at the Bryce solution, the only problem is the initial cost of the license. It is not real cost effective. Jb weld in the head after install keeps anything out. If you need the gate off frequently it may not work well. Will post a few pictures of some test plates.

Looked into this back in 2013, the setup cost to get a unique key is high and you have to buy a minimum quantity of 2500 fasteners. It would take many people to buy the Tailgate Anti-Theft Device to pay for the setup cost and then there would be an issue of who controls the key. Could get the cost of the fastener down to around $2 though.
