The current frame rust corrosion program goes up to the 2008's but who knows

Who says they corrected the "frame issue" and if so where's the proof - my first generation 2008 and my second generation 2016 have the "frame issue". Any proof would be appreciated.

I would be interested to hear from some guys in the north east with 2010's. 5 winters in the salt belt should at least give an indication about how things will go.

I was joking... I under coated before the winter with fluid film and with the exception of one ground bolt that was apparently a bit loose there isn't a speck of rust... I'll be doing the fluid film again in the fall

I also Fluid Filmed. It is awesome stuff, I have been using it for tons of other things too. It's like WD40 on steroids.

I am now a fan of fluid film. A couple of cans is too much for a compleat coating of a taco frame and anything else that might rust under there. I haven't had it on there long but I see it becoming a regular event.

To reply to the op, depending on the region and how much salt, the frame should be good. Have it put up on a rack and walk underneath. There are enough horror stories and pics on this site to show you where to look. Surface rust will be on every vehicle from 2010 that wasn't treated. Don't let it scare you. I use a steam power washer every spring and blow all the salt off. Every fall I blow off the grime and dirt I get from mall crawling and hit it heavy with fluid film on the frame and backs of the fenders to prep for winter. Check it out on a rack and make the call.

Here's something I've been wondering about the frames of these Tacos as I've been reading this forum and learning everything I can about the Tacoma.

Did the Tacoma's have frame rust problems outside of areas where it snowed a lot or they used salt on the roads or on places directly next to the ocean?

I think any truck that's in a "salt belt" area will rust out no matter the brand. I once had a Chevy 2500 that had finger sized holes in the frame just after 3 winters in the U.P. of Michigan.

I haven't done anything preventative help for my 13 and it's still clean. Since my move to KS I plan to get a couple cans of FF and hit the underside best I can to hopefully avoid a major problem. No matter what we do its gonna happen, just hopefully much much later, than sooner.

    Rust isn't inevitable ^^^

The 1985 Toyota Pickup that my dad and I built a few years back had a frame that, with the exception of some rock chips from gravel roads, looked pretty much brand new.

The original owner put over, 280k miles on it but kept everything rust free... Even the body. The only rust on the whole unit was on the custom built tube fenders he had put on when he put wide tires on, and that was hardly beyond surface rust... Oh and the rear springs which we replaced anyways

We took the box off to build a deck and my dad took a wire brush to every rock ding on the frame and body, and we repainted the frame with rattle cans and rocker guard, and the body with rustoleum flat paints... To this day no rust.

Engineers design things like frames for perfect world scenarios - like a world without salted winter roads. With "better" designs, they can make a frame that's just as strong with less material. Rust isn't anything new, it's just that the newer trucks have less frame to get eaten. There's also the fact that areas that never salted the roads in the past are now using a miracle substance called magnesium chloride on the roads. We'll all suffer this scourge eventually - unless you live in a dry sunny area.
