Engine braking help

Don't know if this is out there yet, but here it goes anyway. As of recent i traded my 1st gen for an 06 2nd gen with 45,000 miles. While driving at highway speeds, if i take my foot off the gas it does not coast at all. it feels like im driving in a low gear all the time but i know i am not based on my rpm's. They are usually around 2 grand at 70 miles an hour. It seems as if i am in the gas the entire time to get my truck to move. It wears me out. Is this just how these trucks handle or should i suspect something wrong. Does anyone else have a similar problem. Please help!

 

How quickly do you lose speed once you take your foot off the gas?

I have similar response in my '09... this was helped a bit at lower speeds by the transmission TSB but at 70+ when I take my foot off the gas there is no coasting... I steadily drop speed. I've heard that the injectors are cutting out which creates a pretty aggressive engine braking effect when coasting but haven't been able to verify.

 

So is this normal, Cuzz i hate it!

 

I get around it by using cruise control... at least on relatively flat ground. Now that I've been driving that way for the past few months I never notice it any more.

 

As quickly as i gain it! I did have a crapload of stuff in my truck and 1=1/2 passengers.

 

What exactly was the tranny tsb?

 

When you let off the gas it slows down pretty fast... I never have to use my brakes on a medium grade hill. unless Im behind a chevy or ford

It seems to be shifting fine, of course i have only had it a week. Just sluggish as hell. My first gen rode like a wagon but had a lot more pep with a smaller engine. The dash rattle when every time i coome to a stop is also driving me nuts.

 

Dash rattle could be this... easy fix if it is.

That is strange, I noticed my 07 MT will actually slow down a lil while going downhill...in neutral. I have not tried it on any steep grades yet however.

 

In neutral? Then you've got no engine braking at all, just wind and tire rolling resistance... good MPGs! Heaven help you if you've got to accelerate quickly, though...

 

X2 just the injectors cutting off. And this is a lil off topic, but is the injectors the only thing that cuts off? Like still getting spark and everything just not fuel?

Agreed. When I first got my truck the thing seemed sluggish to me too. The pedal seemed stiff, and still does I guess. Then I pushed the pedal harder and realized the thing runs pretty darn good. But I have to agree when I test drove the thing seemed to run like a dog.
