No because everyone from out of state floods in those weekends. You'll find something for sure. But most likely be around other people.
I took my toy hauler up to tarryall last year I took a spot off the main road that would hold all the people coming. This Honda CR-V sets up shop right next to my generator. I was like WTF!? I jumped on my atv and took them another few miles into a drive in tent spot that I love to use. The guy gave me a beer and said thanks. I was like you would have had a terrible weekend with your tent next to my generator.

Was hoping to get away from established campgrounds. That's why I was hoping my chances were better.

Thanks for your help guys. When I pin down a more precise area, I'll ask for some more ideas.

    Nice!

I bet the transfer skid plate's presence was the final mojo to get your beast fired up.

    Am I right?

Oh no! It may sound like people are being dicks but it's the truth. Those pre holiday weekends, holiday weekends, and after the holiday weekends are crazy in our state.

The weekend after the weekend of the weekend of the 4th is the prime time to camp. Everybody's back to work and the higher trails have started to open up. Pretty much have the forest to yourself.

I'll have to have my brother get to work in scouting some areas. We will have to keep in mind that some places won't be open yet.
Yea, it just worked out that this was the weekend that we all had the chance to meet up. I will look in the Cuchara area or in the southern areas of the state so that I know more spots will be open.

Cinnamon pass will be open I'm sure..this is hiking down from above Engineer pass on July 4, 2015. It's the same elevation as cinnamon..Maybe you all don't know it but silverton has a spectacular fireworks show that easily is better than the much larger town of Durango. The fireworks reflect off the mountain walls.

I said NEAR.. not over lol

I never understand why people want to camp RIGHT NEXT to someone else... maybe it's because they're afraid of the wilderness... or maybe they're not used to being able to get away from others like that... I know out east ya can't get too far away... but when I'm camping... I'm not really happy unless I'm at least a mile away from the next closest people (outside of my group of course) I hate listening to other people's generators, cars, KIDS, doors slam, etc...

In a perfect world I'd find a place with a couple hours of Denver, mild wheeling to get there, site surrounded by trees with a creek/river running nearby for fly fishing.

Yup, although I don't mine the kids and what not running around. We bring so much fun stuff with us we always get people stopping by to say hi or party. Does not bother me. When I go backpacking that's usually my "me" time. Just me and my lab out for few days of walking around without a plan.

Keep in mind it's not just the trails that's are crowded. Driving to and from on the interstates is going to be a parking lot too.

Yeah I hear ya, for the record I wasn't referring to you when I said that... just about people like the guy in the CRV that Hoyle was talking about. some times you are limited, but no matter how limited, I still wouldn't set up right next to someone else if there was another place to go, ESPECIALLY right next to their generator LOL
